Nicole Kidman reveals the one compliment she hates getting for this surprising reason

Some would take it as a compliment, but Oscar winner Nicole Kidman says she hates being called this label.

Nicole Kidman recalls an early acting regret

Nicole Kidman is getting candid about the pressure she feels to be “perfect.”

After being crowned one of the 13 Women of the Year by Time Magazine, the actress disclosed the compliment she often receives — but hates to hear.

“People go, ‘You’re a superwoman’,” Kidman explained to the outlet. “I hate it.”

The actress was discussing Hollywood’s demand for perfection from women directors, actresses and producers on every project.

During the height of the #MeToo movement in 2017, Kidman vowed to work with a woman director every 18 months.

The Big Little Lies star has exceeded that goal; since then, she’s partnered with 19 women directors as either a producer or actor.

“It can be changed,” Kidman argued. “But it can only be changed by actually being in the films of women.”

Kidman’s latest project, the erotic thriller Babygirl, was directed by Dutch writer and actress Halina Reijn.

Reijn discussed her close relationship with Kidman, and the “spiritual experience” of watching the Eyes Wide Shut actress perform in an interview with Vogue in January.

“I’ve never felt so quickly connected to another human being,” Reijn said.

“There is a similarity in our approaches to life and work. We both want a lot of control, we both prepare to the teeth.”

Despite Babygirl getting a six-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival – and snagging Kidman the Volpi Cup for Best Actress – neither the film nor Kidman received any Oscar nominations.

Having been recently relegated to the archetype of slowly-unravelling matriarch, Kidman, 57, expressed her desire for a role where she doesn’t start out as a seemingly perfect wife.

“I am so open to starting something completely a mess and shattered,” Kidman said.

“Where is it? Give me the material.”
