Nanny star Fran Drescher criticises Democrats over election loss

Actress Fran Drescher has expressed her disappointment while criticising the Democratic Party over their dramatic election loss.

Donald Trump claims victory in US Presidential election

Actress Fran Drescher has expressed her disappointment over Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party losing the US election, but in the same breath says she is not surprised with the outcome.

In a brutally honest Instagram post shared in the wake of Donald Trump’s presidential win, The Nanny star – who is a staunch Democrat – said she is just as “frustrated” with the Democratic Party as she is with the Republican Party, also known at the Grand Old Party (or GOP).

The 67-year-old went as far as saying she found neither party to be “futurists” or “inspiring”.

“I am not surprised as much as disappointed in the dems & gop,” Drescher wrote in her lengthy post. “I have met them all behind private doors and none of them are futurists, ahead of the curve or inspiring.”

“Everytime I met with anyone of them I left frustrated by these institutional thinkers. Each of us should have had the courage to say THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! And I don’t mean about the opposition but about their own.”

Drescher prefaced her views by saying she understands why the election played out the way it did because as the current president of the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), she knows first-hand that humans are “easily manipulated thru fear” and “are not critical thinkers”.

“I can believe it. I CAN,” she said of the election results. “After being president of sag aftra for over 3 yrs, i have governed a representation of the entire country thru covid, a strike and the hamas israeli war. ALL major issues that divide the member body much like the country.”

“I have learned that humans are easily manipulated thru fear. Most humans will follow in fear. Most will divide quickly into tribes. Most lack empathy. Most are not critical thinkers. Most cannot see the forrest [sic] for the trees.”

Last month when endorsing Harris, Drescher shared a re-imagined video of her famed The Nanny opening credits with Ms Harris is the lead role, with the actress saying was “ready to experience a woman leading the free world”.

Kamala Harris concedes election but vows to keep fighting

In the clip reworked by Broadway legends Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway, Harris played ‘The Kammy’ complete with pantsuit while in pursuit of The White House.

“She was workin’ at the White House, what a cool VP, and then Biden stopped his campaign sayin’ ‘No, not me,’” it begins in the famous The Nanny Named Fran jingle. “What were we to do? Where were we to go? We were out on our fanny!”

“Then suddenly Joe said Kamala’s the one to run. She raised millions and endorsements came from everyone. She’s got brains, she’s got balls, and Tim Walz and she’ll soon be President Harris.”

Vice President Harris’ quest for the presidency was not to be and she officially conceded defeat to Mr Trump today while urging her supporters to keep fighting for the policy areas she built her campaign on.

“The light of America’s promise will always burn bright,” she said. “As long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”

While Drescher has criticised the election loss, other celebrities are “sobbing” and fuming about the outcome.

“Why? Give me your reasons why????? My child is sobbing because her rights as a woman may be taken away. Why? And if you disagree, please unfollow me,” actress Christina Applegate took to X to vent.

Pop star Billie Eilish, who proudly endorsed Ms Harris on multiple occasions in the lead-up to the election, posted a brief yet powerful statement on her Instagram story, writing, “It’s a war on women.”

However in a surprise twist, rapper Azealia Banks, who publicly threw her support behind Ms Harris, revealed she actually voted for Mr Trump.

“Lmao I lied, I voted for Trump yesterday,” Banks tweeted, while appearing to take great pleasure in revealing her ballot paper on X.
