The chemistry between Hugh Jackman and his co-star, Sutton Foster, is undeniable in a resurfaced video doing the rounds on social media.
The pair, who are now dating after splitting from their spouses, were co-stars in the Broadway production The Music Man, on which she played librarian Marian Paroo who falls for the charms of Jackman’s character, con artist professor Harold Hill.
While chemistry was required to play lovers in the musical, that same spark was evident when the duo playfully and frequently broke character onstage – or, in theatre speak, “broke the fourth wall”.
In one intense scene going viral online, Foster, 50, could be seen shoving Jackman, 56, on stage as she scolds his character.
But instead of sticking to the script, the Aussie actor breaks character and starts shimmying towards her before pretending to do a striptease.
Many of the audience laughed and cheered them on as Jackman adlibbed on stage, but others in the crowd thought the scene was ruined by their “unprofessional” antics.

“I saw this production. Their consistent breaking of the fourth wall and mugging to the audience really ruined a wonderful musical. I was very disappointed,” one recalled on TikTok while commenting on the resurfaced video.
“I saw it too and felt the same way. It was awful how many times they broke the fourth wall. It turned slapstick,” another theatregoer added.
“Seriously miscast Them giggling was distracting n annoying from their performance. It should’ve have been written in,” yet another wrote, while one wondered, “Why did he break character? That just ruined a serious scene for no reason at all.”
While others said that both Jackman and Foster were just “doing their jobs” and “entertaining their audience”, others wondered if their flirty banter at the time was due to something more.
“When I saw the show, their chemistry was unmatched,” said one TikTok user, who was in the audience.
“Yaasss I saw how much they laughed together while performing and I had some thoughts,” another chimed in, as another user wrote, “This is how I learn it was fake. I’ve been telling everyone I was a witness to adultery im [sic] real time.”
“Wild that such a bland show spawned this great love affair,” another added.

Since publicly confirming their relationship in January after months of speculation, it’s been widely suggested that Jackman and Foster became close while co-starring in The Music Man, which ran on Broadway from December 2021 to January 2023.
In September 2023, Jackman and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, announced their separation after 27 years of marriage and two kids.
The following year, in October 2024, Foster filed for divorce from her husband Ted Griffin after 10 years of marriage. They share one child Emily, who they adopted in 2017.
Both parties put out glowing statements when they split, saying they would remain friends for the sake if their children. However, last month Furness released a bombshell and very unexpected statement after reaching a major agreement in their divorce – a statement in which she revealed how life really is after Jackman.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” Furness said in a statement to the Daily Mail.
“It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.’”
Furness went on to say that she had “gained much knowledge and wisdom” through “the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage”.
“It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom,” she said.
Furness finished the statement by offering the “one thing” she had learned in the split: “That none of this is personal.” She said she remained “grateful” for her time with Jackman.
