Britney Spears kicked off a new week by issuing a mea culpa.

The singer apologised on Monday morning, US time for some of the content in her memoir, The Woman in Me that may have rubbed readers the wrong way, reported the New York Post’s Page Six.

“If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry …” she wrote on Instagram.

In a shocking twist, Spears then gave a shout-out to her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake following the release of his new single and appearance on US late night program The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song Selfish. It is soo good,” she wrote, “and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard ???

“Ps Sanctified is wow too,” she added of another tune Timberlake, 42, debuted on US skit show Saturday Night Live over the weekend.

Spears’ comments come as her diehard fans have been streaming and buying her 2011 song Selfish to usurp Timberlake’s track on the charts.

The Princess of Pop’s esoteric tune from the deluxe edition of her album Femme Fatale entered the Top 40 of the US iTunes chart last Thursday, the same day Timberlake released the first offering from his forthcoming album, Everything I Thought It Was.

Spears’ Selfish reached No. 1 by Friday afternoon as Timberlake’s fell from the top spot to No. 3.

The Toxic singer’s fan base has taken issue with the Mirrors crooner ever since he put her on blast in his 2002 single Cry Me a River for cheating on him.

The hatred renewed — if not increased — after Spears, also 42, revealed in her bombshell-laden book that she had an abortion while dating the former *NSYNC member because he “wasn’t happy” about the pregnancy.

Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel have remained out of the spotlight in recent months, as they’ve been harassed by the Britney Army since the memoir’s October 2023 release.

The couple fled to Mexico with their two sons, Silas, 8, and Phineas, 3, to escape the drama. The Social Network actor also disabled his Instagram comments temporarily after Spears’ stans flooded his account with hateful messages.

He since has enabled the feature but remains a victim of vitriol.
