Ben Affleck finally breaks silence on Jennifer Lopez divorce

Months on from his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, the actor has finally given his side of the shock split.

Ben Affleck claims his divorce from Jennifer Lopez was “drama-free.”

The actor insisted fans’ “eyes would glaze over with boredom” if they “sat down and talked to” him about his seemingly “sensational” life in magazine GQ’s April 2025 cover story, published on Tuesday.

Affleck, 52, went on to address his headline-making split for the first time — while denying Lopez’s Greatest Love Story Never Told documentary about them caused “some major fracture” in their romance, reports Page Six.

The Oscar winner admitted he is certainly “more reserved and private than” his ex-wife, acknowledging that they did not “always have the same attitude toward” being in the public eye.

Nonetheless, Affleck participated in the 2024 project in order to “love and support” his then-partner.

“You’ve got to own what you knew going into any relationship,” he noted. “It’s not like you can watch that documentary and go, ‘Oh, now I understand the issues that these two had.’”

Later in the interview, Affleck emphasised that Lopez, 55, is “somebody [he has] a lot of respect for,” and he does not want to “suggest” that “the line between public and private life” led to “negativity or judgment”.

He added, “I have nothing but respect [for her]. I guess there’s a tendency to look at breakups and want to identify root causes or something. But honestly, like I said, the truth is much more quotidian than probably people would believe or would be interesting.”

The Golden Globe winner doubled down on the end of their marriage containing “no scandal, no soap opera [and] no intrigue.”

He said, “The truth is, when you talk to somebody, ‘Hey, what happened?’ Well, there is no: ‘This is what happened.’ It’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships in ways that we all sort of normally do.

“There is no ‘So-and-so did this’ or ‘This was the big event,’” Affleck continued. “It sounds more like a couple’s therapy session. … You start going, ‘OK, clearly this person has got these issues. Clearly they have these issues.’”

He neglected to share specifics because that felt “sort of embarrassing” and “vulnerable.”

The Good Will Hunting star, who also discussed his co-parenting dynamic with ex-wife Jennifer Garner and his January FBI visit in the conversation, was first linked to Lopez from 2002 to 2004.

The exes reconciled in 2021, tying the knot in Las Vegas the following year before marrying again in Georgia.

In Lopez’s first comments on their split in October 2024, the singer gushed to Interview magazine about her single status.

J.Lo asked, “Everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f**king do when it’s just me flying on my own?”
