Home Improvement sitcom star arrested for the sixth time in five years
The child star, best known for his role on popular sitcom Home Improvement was detained in Oregon for an alleged probation violation.
Home Improvement star, Zachery Ty Bryan, has been arrested for the sixth time in five years.
The 44-year-old child star, best known for his role as older brother, Brad Taylor, on the popular 90s sitcom, was said to have been detained by Eugene, Oregon police for an alleged probation violation stemming from a previous domestic violence case.
According to jail records, the actor is currently being held at Lane Country Jail without bail.
His fiancee, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, is also being held at the same jail and is facing five charges. They include one count of driving under the influence, three counts of reckless endangering and one count of attempted first-degree assault.
Bryan enjoyed eight successful seasons on Home Improvement, opposite TV great Tim Allen, who played his handyman father.
When the series ended in 1999, the star moved on with guest roles on other popular shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Boston Public, and Veronica Mars.
Despite being a household name during those years, Bryan admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he found it “really difficult” to secure work.
This marks Bryan’s sixth arrest in just five years, his most recent being in January earlier this year for second-degree domestic violence.
According to People, the woman involved in the incident (who it has been reported to be Cartwright) claimed that she was “assaulted” by Brian, who she lived with at the time and shares children with.
In 2024, he was also arrested for DUI twice and in 2023, he was charged with fourth-degree felony assault, third-degree robbery and misdemeanour harassment.
Following a guilty plea to felony assault in the fourth degree, he was sentenced to jail for seven days.
His second count was dismissed with the star issued with a downward dispositional departure to 36 months of supervised probation as well as standard domestic violence conditions.
His sentence is reportedly due to end in October 2026.
Despite their troubled relationship, which also included an attempted strangulation in 2020, Cartwright insisted she held no animosity towards the father of her children and would “always want what’s best” for him.
“Trauma can bring struggles in many shapes and forms. It’s a horrible situation that’s going to be spun in so many ways,” she shared with Us Weekly.
“I ask everyone to please be respectful of our privacy for the sake of the children and our families so the healing process can begin.”
Bryan is scheduled to be released from Lane Country Jail on Wednesday.
