Dave Coulier has been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The Full House star revealed his “roller coaster” health struggle on the US Today show on Wednesday.
“[I was] feeling like I got punched in the stomach because it never happens to you,” he said of being told he has cancer, reports The New York Post’sPage Six.
“You always hear about it happening to someone else.”
Coulier, whose first symptom was a lump in his groin, noted that he was “on pins and needles for a few days” while waiting to hear whether the disease had spread “to any major organs or [his] blood or bones or anything.”
While waiting, the actor, 65, told his wife, Melissa Coulier, “I’m OK with whatever the news [is] going to be no matter how devastating. … I’ve had an incredible life. I’ve had the most amazing people in my life. This has been an extraordinary journey, and I’m OK if this is the end of the journey”.
However, Coulier was told that the cancer has not moved outside of his lymphatic system.
The comedian has since started chemotherapy treatment, which was “intense” and “scared the daylights” out of him.
“There [are] days where I feel unbelievable,” he said. “Then there’s other days where … I’m just going to lay down and let this be what it’s going to be”.
Coulier is expected to finish treatment in February 2025 after undergoing six rounds of chemo every three weeks.
While his diagnosis initially did not “sound great,” Coulier assured viewers that the curability rate is promising.
He and his wife Melissa, 41, have been married since July 2014.
Coulier previously wed Jane Modean in June 1990, and the former couple are the parents of 33-year-old son Luc.
The impressionist is best known for playing Joey Gladstone on Full House from 1987 to 1995 — and reprising his role on Fuller House for five seasons.
In January 2022, the cast mourned co-star Bob Saget after his death at age 65.
Coulier honoured his late friend with a touching tweet at the time, writing, “My heart is broken. I love you, Bob. Your forever brother, Dave.”
