Former Baywatch star and ex-wife of David Hasselhoff Pamela Bach had health and money issues in the lead-up to her death, according to new reports.

The 62-year-old was found dead in her Hollywood Hills home on March 5. Her death has been ruled a suicide by the Los Angeles medical examiner.

The couple’s former nanny and assistant Andrea Canning, who went on to become a Dateline journalist and writer, spoke out following the death of her friend.

She told People that Ms Bach had been struggling with health and finance issues, although her death had come as a shock. She paid tribute to her kind friend and her positive outlook on life.

“She definitely had troubles, but she also had a really positive outlook on life as well,” Ms Canning told the news outlet.

“And it’s funny — the longer I got to know her, the nicer she became.”

Ms Bach was best known for her 10-year stint on the hit series Baywatch and Knight Rider, both of which starred Mr Hasselhoff; as well as also The Young and the Restless.

“Our family is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Pamela Hasselhoff,” Mr Hasselhoff told TMZ.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time but we kindly request privacy as we grieve and navigate through this challenging time.”

Oklahoma-born Bach met Hasselhoff on the Knight Rider set and they were married in 1989 until their divorce in 2006. They have two daughters: Taylor, 34, and Hayley, 32.

Ms Canning met the couple when she was an intern at Baywatch and she became close to them, acting as an assistant and looking after the children. The two women forged a decades-long friendship that had survived the Hasselhoffs’ divorce.

She said that a 2003 motorcycle accident the couple had been involved in had left Ms Back with a broken neck and back, and she had struggled with her health ever since.

“The last time I saw her, she was walking with a cane. She wasn’t the Pamela I knew,” Ms Canning told People.

“She was just having difficulty getting around. It took a toll on her, that accident.”

The friends also often talked about Ms Bach’s financial problems.

“There were times where she’s like, ‘I’m going to be homeless. I’ve got to get out of this house,’ which never happened,” said Ms Canning.

“She would say it was going to happen, and then it didn’t. And I don’t know how she ended up staying there. I don’t know how she kept her bills paid, because she was always saying that, ‘What am I going to do.’”
