Former British prime minister Boris Johnson and wife Carrie have stunned friends by welcoming a new baby — his ninth child — after a secret pregnancy.

Carrie revealed the adorable name for the couple’s fourth child, a baby girl named Poppy Eliza Josephine Johnson, in a post on Instagram, adding: “We are all totally smitten.”

The elated mum shared pictures of Boris, 60, cradling the newborn, saying they were having “cocktails and pizza” to celebrate their daughter’s birth.

In another image, Carrie, 37, held her tiny daughter as she lay in her hospital bed.

“I can’t believe how pretty and tiny you are,” Carrie wrote. “Feel so incredibly lucky. We are all totally smitten.”

In one adorable snap, the baby’s older siblings gazed at their little sister in her bassinet.

“Not sure I’ve slept a minute since you were born as can’t stop looking at how completely lovely you are,” Carrie wrote.

Poppy, who has been nicknamed Pop Tart, was born on May 21 and is Boris’s ninth child.

He and Carrie married in July 2021, and share sons Wilfred, five, and Frank, one, and daughter Romy, three.

Boris also has four grown-up children with his second wife, Marina Wheeler, and another daughter from an affair.

The couple had not announced they were expecting a fourth child and the news appeared to take friends on Instagram by surprise.

One wrote: “Is this your baby Carrie? Incredible. None of us knew!!! Congratulations.”

Another commented: “Whaattt? How did you keep that a secret?”

In her post, Carrie also thanked the maternity team at University College London Hospital in Euston, north London, “and particularly to Asma and Patrick who have looked after me so well through all my pregnancies”.

Carrie, a former communications director for the Conservative Party, hinted that their fourth child would be their last, describing Poppy as a “final gang member”.

She said her other children were “utterly delighted” with the addition to the family, sating elder daughter Romy was “desperate for a little sister”.
