Billy Ray Cyrus is allegedly threatening “legal action” on his son for expressing his concerns for the country music star in a social media post.
Trace Cyrus took to Instagram days ago with fears for his “struggling” father, saying he and his siblings, Brandi Cyrus, Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus, fear they may “lose him” if he doesn’t get help soon.
The emotional letter came after Billy Ray’s concerning performance at the Liberty Ball after Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday in which the musician could be heard singing out of tune and rambling at the audience during his bizarre set.
Trace’s pleas after his father’s trainwreck performance was not well received, with Billy Ray now said to be threatening him with legal action, Trace has claimed in his latest post.
“Dad my messages was beyond loving,” the 35-year-old began. “I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don’t want to put your business out there like that.”
“But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace. Pappy is looking down at you with such disappointment I can assure you.
“You should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really fell. I am not. Get help.”
In his original post, Trace said he had always looked up to Billy Ray, who adopted him after he married Trace’s mum Tish Cyrus in 1993. The couple have since divorced.
“Since my earliest memories, all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever. I wanted to be just like you,” Trace wrote.
“The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life. Sadly, the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like, I barely recognise now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you.”
Trace went on to share his concern for his father’s health and wellbeing, saying: “You may be upset with me for posting this, but I really could care less at this point. Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away.”
He said sister Noah has been left heartbroken because her father “hasn’t been there” for her when she needed him.
“Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life, and you haven’t even been there for her,” continued the musician. “That’s your baby girl. She deserves better. Somehow just like me, she still idolises you though.”
“We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew and hoping for the day he returns. You’re not healthy, Dad and everyone is noticing it.”
Indeed, Billy Ray’s Aussie ex-wife has also weighed in, hinting that all is not well with the two-time Grammy winner.
“What’s being seen in public now reflects much of what I experienced in private during our relationship,” she told People magazine. “It’s very sad to see those same struggles continue for him, but I’m glad the truth is coming to light — for his potential good because healing is only possible when you confront the truth and accept there’s a problem. For me, I remain focused on my faith, my music, my healing and using my story to encourage others to find strength and hope.”
The couple finalised their divorce in August 2024. They were together for four years and married for seven months of marriage, during which Firerose claims was marred by abuse.
