Celebrities with shaved heads, and other celeb gossip from the week

The Buzz haircut has hit the big screen and mega fashion campaigns and its appearance completes a massive week in celeb land.

FROM Charlize Theron in the latest Mad Max instalment to uber-model Gisele Bündchen in a Balenciaga campaign.

Yup. They’re both sporting a buzz cut. But would any of us have the nerve to chop it ALL off?

There have already been a flurry of women chopping of their locks to jaw level — hello Nicole Warne (aka garypeppergirl.com), The Morning Show’s Kylie Gillies, Lara Bingle and even Gabi Grecko (for a minute anyway) but to go the whole way?

“You need total confidence in yourself to get way with it,” says celebrity hair stylist Renya Xydis from Valonz Haircutters.

Renya says most people who would dare to do it then often ‘play up’ their eyes, lips or hair colour.

“You pretty much need to play it up and wear some colour although some killer cheekbones wouldn’t go astray either,” laughs Renya.

So, The Buzz may be back. But only if you dare.

WHY THE FROW FROWNS?

IT is one of the global and local fashion runway worlds great mysteries. Why the long faces from those in the front row?

The much-talked about, celeb-filled Myer show was the talk of the week’s party set but I couldn’t help but notice, yet again, a brilliant show of front row nonchalance. Love it!

So, here are a few front row tips I’ve gleaned, just in case you ever to reach the heady heights of ‘frow’ A-team status ...

• Look permanently disinterested.

• NEVER sing, hum along or tap your foot to the accompanying soundtrack. Soo not cool.

• Do stare at your watch, your device or whatever else you like and pretend you really need to be somewhere else. Like at home, on the lounge, eating cheese-on-toast and settling in for Lateline.

• Draw up your shopping/to-do list just as a really fantastic outfit and model passes by. I mean, you don’t want to look like you’re REALLY excited by a frock!

• Girls: remember to cross your legs and wear killer heels. Guys: sit with them apart - to a degree.

• Remember to stare across the room at the ‘other’ front row and wistfully ponder why you’re not over there.

• Text across the runway to a fellow front-rowing friend to say ‘hi’. Just because you can.

• Avoid (accidentally) kicking your champagne glass over when you pop it down under your seat when the show starts. (I’m talking to myself here ...)

JULIA NOBIS JETS IN

SEATED in the ‘froe’ (looking happy, btw) was uber modelling chick, the Sydney-born Julia Nobis who jetted in, not be on the runway, but to watch it instead.

The Priscilla’s model, who is now studying for a science degree in New York has seriously hit the fashion big time with a cache of covers, including Vogue, to her credit as well as shots for names like Marc Jacobs, Dior and Givenchy.

Julia told me it was a welcome relief just to ‘be’ and not to have to throw on the runway warpaint for her appearance, opting for a delicious Toni Maticevki dress on the red carpet instead. Go Julia!

MYER MUSINGS:

Colourful fashion identities: Make-up maestro Napoleon Perdis and Kate Peck at the Myer show.

You have to hand it to the incredibly shrinking man Napoleon Perdis.

Who could get away with a bright pink jacket (hello Paul Smith), silver leather pants (from Maison Margiela) and shoes (St Laurent), a killer alligator mansize Hermes Birkin bag and a white Hermes belt. Only Napoleon.

The make-up guru tended to the faces of the Myer models but not before he has a series of backstage health juicier and a megadose of vitamin B12, which he flies over with him from his home in the US. Although I did spy him with a Patron tequila cocktail after the show.

Yup. Life’s going pretty well for the maquillage king.

Alex Perry was as pleased as a Cheshire cat about his return to the Myer label stable, grabbing the opening spot as he dressed Jennifer Hawkins in a pastel, multi-hued lace dress for her first exit.

Alex is very philosophical about his fashion world business and told me he felt like he was in a good “happy place” at the retailer. Good luck AP.

HAPPY 100TH SPORTSCRAFT

If fashion were a dog, Sportscraft would be 700 years old.

And considering the lifespan of so many labels lasts around one ‘dog’ year, Sportscraft is the proudest pooch ever on the Australian fashion planet.

A very chic swag of guests gathered to wish the longstanding, understated and stylish label well over one very smart dinner at Cafe Sydney.

Faces enjoying the Perrier-Jouet bubbles, wagyu carpaccio, pumpkin sage gnocchi and Cone Bay barramundi included actor Rachel Griffiths, Michael and Lyndy Klim, Jordan and Zac Stenmark, Kylie Kwong, Gracie Otto, Ita Buttrose and Samantha Harris.
