COMEDIAN Tom Gleeson took great delight in mocking Brendan Fevola to his face during a hilarious radio segment.
During an appearance on Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev & Byron, Gleeson did a “Hard Chat” interview with Fevola, similar to the segments he hosts on The Weekly With Charlie Pickering.
And given Fevola’s well publicised ups and downs, there was no shortage of material for Gleeson to poke fun at.
If you’re not too familiar with Fev, here’s a quick rundown:
He was traded by AFL club Carlton at the end of 2009 following numerous indiscretions away from the field, culminating in his drunken performance at that year’s Brownlow Medal ceremony.
He lasted just one season at Brisbane before the Lions sacked him following another year of drama that included a nude photo controversy involving Lara Bingle and an arrest.
Fevola’s gambling addiction has also been well publicised. Despite earning a swag of money in his playing days through lucrative contracts and endorsement deals, he filed for bankruptcy in 2013. He also lost more than $300,000 during a three-day binge on the horses.
And in 2016 he lasted six weeks in the jungle and won I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!
Gleeson started the interview by asking Fevola about his role on Channel Nine’s AFL Footy Show.
“Do you feel like a rat that’s jumped onto a sinking ship?” he asked the former footy player.
“Well they gave me the arse, Tom ... the first time around they gave me the flick and now they’ve got no ratings they’ve got me back and we’re flying,” Fevola replied.
“Would you ever consider going back into the jungle but this time staying there and never coming back?” Gleeson asked the former reality TV star.
“I could have stayed there a lot longer,” Fevola said about I’m A Celeb. “The amount of money they paid me I could still be in there.”
“Why are you working in radio?” Gleeson asked the media personality. “Is it to top up your Bet Fair account?”
“It’s actually Ladbrokes and the account’s going well,” Fevola joked.
“Last year you turned up sober to the Logies, what was that all about?” Gleeson asked next.
Answering the question honestly, Fevola said, “It’s because I was banned from the casino and I’d just started this job [Fox FM] and we were going live from the Logies and I had to sign a contract that if I was allowed back in I couldn’t drink.”
Fevola has now joined an illustrious group of Aussie celebrities who have been interviewed by Gleeson for a “Hard Chat” segment.
Some of the others include The Veronicas, Yassmin Abdel-Magied and probably the best one of all time, Sophie Monk.
Tom Gleeson will be touring his new stand-up show, Sure Thing, in Newcastle, Melbourne, Wollongong, Canberra and Sydney. All details and tickets available at comedy.com.au
