A Playboy cover girl and best-selling author is among a new group of volunteers flocking to offer support to Liberal candidate Katherine Deves.

Playboy cover girl, actress and best-selling author Deborah Gray — who boasts of casting powerful witch spells — is among a new group of volunteers flocking to offer support to Liberal candidate Katherine Deves’s campaign.

As Ms Deves battles to win back the seat of Warringah for the Liberal Party, she’s been buoyed by an influx of volunteers, which includes the former actress turned biological sex campaigner, who starred in Number 96.

“See you on Election Day volunteers! Look forward to wearing the KD for Warringah T-shirt and celebrating her win in the Saturday evening,” Ms Gray wrote.

Ms Gray previously starred in the famous 1970s soap opera Number 96 as Miss Hemingway, a mysterious woman with a psychological aversion to wearing clothes.

According to press reports at the time, over several weeks her character was gradually “cured” of her problem by Number 96’s resident psychologist, depicted on screen by Miss Hemingway adding one item of clothing in each episode.

She went on to acting roles in The Young Doctors, Bellamy and an all-girl cabaret act Deborah Gray and the Flames (which included future Perfect Match hostess Debbie Newsome) before releasing two songs Mellow Loving and Love Song of O, which peaked at number 89 on the Australian charts.

Ms Gray’s website states that her journey into alchemy and magic started as a teenager when she embarked on the “rare and respected apprenticeship method in one of the world’s oldest and revered Ancient Mystery Schools and has continued her study into metaphysics for over 20 years”.

Gray is a model, actress and author.

“Deborah is Australia’s No. 1 selling and most prolific witchy author around the world,” her website states.

Ms Deves has paid tribute to her new volunteers on Facebook as the backbone of her campaign.

“You are the backbone of my campaign. I am very grateful for your enthusiasm and support,” she wrote.

The influx comes at a time of some turbulence, with the departure of campaign volunteer James Flynn.

The respected Liberal strategist is now helping out in other campaigns paving the way for respected media and communications consultant Mark Westfield to guide Ms Deves.

Mr Westfield, a former staffer to Malcolm Turnbull, flew from Tasmania to Sydney this week to run the campaign after Ms Deves was forced to hire two burly security guards after complaining she had received online death threats.
