AS plans for a Hollywood version of Fifty Shades of Grey get underway, all eyes are on who will star in the raunchy film adaptation.

With filming expected to start next year, the script is currently being finalised and casting has begun to find the actors who will play the alluring Christian Grey and his naive love interest Anastasia Steele.

Rights to the best-selling novel by British author E. L. James have been snapped up by Universal Pictures and the production team behind Oscar-winning film The Social Network.

Intense speculation surrounds who will play the billionaire bondage fanatic but it is Vampire Diaries hunk Ian Somerhalder who is the fan favourite for the role.

A poll by UK sex toy website lovehoney.co.uk reveals that almost one in six chose Somerhalder, 34, as their first pick, followed by British actor Henry Cavill, who stars in the new Superman movie, Man of Steel. Ryan Gosling came in third place.

As for the innocent, yet sassy character of Anastasia Steele, Gilmore Girls star Alexis Bledel topped the list, just beating out Anne Hathaway as the fan favourite.

Avid fans are pleading with movie creators not to tone down the sex scenes in the big screen adaptation, with 90 per cent of those polled agreeing it would be a mistake to remove the raunchy Fifty Shades moments.

"There is huge excitement about the film but, if the fans are right, it will be a big mistake to make a Fifty Shades-lite version with the bondage left out. I am sure the final version will be amazing", spokesman for Lovehoney said.

E. L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey sold 70 million copies worldwide.
