Bogut and Hutchy’s fat shaming Twitter spat ends with doughnuts

Basketball superstar Andrew Bogut and media boss Craig Hutchison have reconciled over Krispy Kreme doughnuts, after a fat shaming spat last year.

A peace offering of doughnuts has been the catalyst for basketball superstar Andrew Bogut and media boss Craig Hutchison to bury the hatchet and call a truce on their calorie-laden sporting spat.

The pair broke bread at a recent meeting of National Basketball League owners with Sydney Kings co-owners Bogut and Paul Smith arriving at the powerbroker’s table with a present for Hutchison, who is the current chairman of Melbourne United - a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Hutchison’s company Sports Entertainment Group recently bought the Perth Wildcats NBL team.

The doughnuts refer back to a Twitter sledge Bogut shot Hutchison’s way in August 2020 after the media bigwig joked on radio that the basketball star was “overpaid” as a player with the Sydney Kings.

Bogut didn’t mince his words, mocking the ratings of Hutchison’s SEN radio station on social media and playing the doughnut card with his final post.

“I know VIC is in lockdown and you couldn’t grab your box or 10 of Krispy Kremes for breaky, but keep my name out of your mouth,” he tweeted.

He was accused of ‘fat shaming’ because of the post by online followers.

Days later 120 doughnuts were delivered to the SEN radio station while Hutchison was presenting his Off The Bench show.

The sender remains unidentified.

Hutchison confirmed a truce had finally been brokered between the pair.

“We have broken bread or doughnuts in this case,” he said.

“At the NBL owners meeting recently Andrew and Paul both brought a bag of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to the table as a bit of fun.

“Everyone enjoyed them except me. I was too scared to have one in case it ended up on his (Bogut’s) Instagram.”

For his part, Bogut put the Twitter stoush down as just banter, but hinted he and Hutchison were not done as adversaries just yet.

“I banter with everyone and on socials the context is horrible most times,” Bogut said.

“(It) was never a big deal to me considering the attention it got.

“I look forward to hating the Perth Wildcats even more now though!”

With two NBL teams now on his roster, Hutchison has indicated he will step down as chairman of Melbourne United after SEG’s purchase of the Wildcats is approved by the league at the end of the month.

SEG currently owns 25 per cent of Melbourne United.
