Bill Skarsgard has shown off his impressive transformation for his latest film role.

The Swedish actor, 34, can be seen in new photos, posted on X, flaunting his ripped physique following months of rigorous diet and exercise to star in Lionsgate’s new movie, The Crow.

Based on the 80s graphic novel series of the same name, the premise follows Eric (Skarsgard) who returns to life after his murder to embark on a journey of revenge against those who killed him and his fiancee Shelly (played by FKA Twigs).

Speaking to Variety, Skarsgard, who is perhaps best known for playing Pennywise in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s It, detailed his strict food and fitness routine in the lead up to filming.

“I’d already been training for quite a while. Me and my trainer kept adding a little bit of weight onto what I’d already be, but I didn’t want to be too big either,” Skarsgard explained.

“It was a tricky one, because they wanted the Crow to be ripped, but the character Eric shouldn’t be … I didn’t feel like the character should be thin, but you can’t afford to split it into six months, the ‘Raging Bull’ kind of way. So we did a lot of weight training and ate a lot of protein.”

The Crow director Rupert Sanders told how the actor was on a diet of “steak tartare and raw eggs”, while also omitting sugar and alcohol.

“I’d take Bill out to dinner. I’d always just order for him because I knew what he was eating,” Sanders told the outlet.

“It’s basically steak tartare and raw eggs. He was in the gym a lot.

“He ate very healthily and put us all to shame when we were eating burgers and hot dogs and working late at night in the Czech summer.”

Skarsgard is the younger brother of fellow actor Alexander Skarsgard and the son of veteran film star Stellan Skarsgard.

While he’s been acting steadily since 2008, Skarsgard starred in his first major US film in the 2016 movie Allegiant, the finale to the Divergent film trilogy, opposite Shailene Woodley.

His big break came when he was cast as Pennywise in the 2017 horror flick and its 2019 sequel, before going on to land roles in Deadpool 2, John Wick 4 and Boy Kills World.

The Crow is in cinemas now.
