One of Australia’s Gold Logie contenders has suffered a wardrobe malfunction while another could not rule out pull an all-nighter after the awards night.
It could only happen to Julia Morris. The Gold Logie contender survived the red carpet to suffer a shoe disaster once inside the venue.
The comedian and host broke the heel of her blue and aqua stratospheric sandals by luxe brand Aquazzura, which retail for more than $1000.
On a live Instagram video, Morris shared with her fans she had spent the past month planning her outfit around the very high heels.
“These would be the Aquazzura shoes I shouted myself...so that’s good, for the Logies,” she said, holding the broken footwear.
“So keep an eye out for those shoes that won’t be on my feet.
“The whole outfit (was) built around these shoes that while I was walking, went underneath me. Thank god you didn’t see my fall, I looked like a total knucklehead.”
She wasted no time crying over spilt heels and switched to comfy trainers for the ceremony.
Gold Logie nominee Karl Stefanovic was up to his usual tricks, gatecrashing a live Sky News cross and a Tom Gleeson interview.
“It’s a proper vibe on the Gold Coast,” he said.
“I’m absolutely feeling electric and I haven’t even had a drink. Everyone in the industry hasn’t seen each other and it’s been a tough two years. Everyone knows how hard it is to put out a show and to even get out the door.”
Stefanovic said he couldn’t rule out having an all nighter before the Today Show starts.
“I’ve got to give the people what they want,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gold Logie nominee Sonia Kruger, who is wearing designer Albina Dyla from Gold Couture, said she thought Hamish Blake was a shoe-in for the win.
“If it’s a participation award, I’ve got it, it’s mine. But it’s not it’s popularity,” she said.
As for the congestion on the carpet, Kruger said it was likely the excitement of being back.
“People get on the red carpet and they don’t like to get off,” she said.
And out of everything at the Logies, she was most excited for one thing in particular.
“The end, the burger at the end of the night,” she said.
Their other Gold Logie nominee Melissa Leong became emotional on the carpet when talking about the impact of her nomination.
“If I win tonight, I’ll be the first woman of colour and that’s emotional to think about,” she said
“To be standing here and for it to be me, I’m just very happy to be here.
“Hopefully by me being here, little kids will know they can do anything they want to do.”
And Gold Logie nominee Tom Gleeson said he “sincerely” didn’t want anyone to vote for him tonight because he didn’t want to “ruin the fun”.
“Wouldn’t it be fun at the end of the day to say I just won the Gold and no others,” he said.
“I do think everyone genuinely doesn’t know who’s going to win (the Gold) because no one’s been able to campaign,” he said.
RACY GOWNS LEAD RED CARPET CHARGE
Low-cut necklines, thigh-high splits and Hollywood-inspired dressing – the Logies’ red carpet is already delivering head-turning fashion moments.
The countdown is underway to the return of the TV Week Logie Awards – being staged for the first time since 2019 after a Covid-induced hiatus – and stars are out in well-heeled force on the Gold Coast.
Logies Ambassador Sophie Monk said it was “awesome” for the Logies to be on the Gold Coast, as she stepped out in a plunging gold gown from Steven Khalil.
Monk’s show Beauty and the Geek is nominated but she wasn’t sure of the outcome.
“I checked Sportsbet and we’re second… I’ve got to be careful not to drink too much though just in case,” she said
Over-the-top Hollywood glamour and bold colours are dominating the looks of the night.
Former ABC 7.30 host Leigh Sales stunned in a long orange gown.
Sales said it’s “heaven” to be back on the Coast with her show up for a nomination.
“It’s great I used to live on the Gold Coast, I just love her,” she said.
Former Bachelor star Anna Heinrich and Home & Away’s Ada Nicodemou rounded out the plunging neckline brigade, while Andy Lee’s influencer girlfriend, Rebecca Harding, sported a daring Rick Owens gown, with a cut-out across the centre.
MEL B GETS MAKE UP DONE ON THE RUN
Former Spice Girl Mel B has joked about the amount of work it takes to get herself red carpet ready.
Flying in to Australia to attend the annual TV Week Logie Awards, the British singer put her best red carpet foot forward at the Gold Coast Convention Centre as a new judge on The Masked Singer.
“I do the make up myself, I woke up like this b*tch,” the 47-year-old said.
Moments earlier, Mel B’s team were spotted helping with make-up touch-ups amid the red carpet chaos.
Scary Spice, wearing a burnt orange coloured gown from West Australian label Zhivago, was joined by fellow newcomers to the Australian reality show judging panel, Abbie Chatfield and Chrissie Swan. Chatfield meanwhile wore Con Ilio while Swan opted for sleek black Cappellazzo Couture.
“This is nuts. Everyone is buzzing, it’s the first Logies in like two years,” Mel B said.
“I have been many, many years ago. I’ve been all over the world for the last six months. I love what I do, I love my work, I get to be a spice girl, I get to travel the world, I’m just so happy to be back in Australia, my kids went to school here. It feels like my home turf.”
Mel B has already bonded with fellow judge Abbie Chatfield who was a red carpet knockout in Con Ilio.
“Hello Australia, I have missed you so much but I am back and I can’t wait to get the party started with Hughesy, Abbie and Chrissie,” Mel B said about the new TV gig earlier this month. “Let me tell you though, I am the best-ever game player and I have something up my sleeve that none of these guys have … I’ve hidden behind these masks as a competitor not once but twice. So I’m bringing all my secret inside knowledge to this. But more to the point, I’m bringing the fun. Fasten your seatbelts everyone, it’s going to be a rollercoaster ride.”
Mel B is no newcomer to Australian television. She has in fact appeared on numerous shows including The X Factor and The Voice Kids.
Comedian Dave Hughes, who wore Brent Wilson, is the only judge returning to the format this year while Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Dannii Minogue and Urzula Carlson have departed.
MORE STARS ARRIVE
While Deborah Mailman is nominated for a silver Logie for Total Control, the star said she didn’t think she would be getting on stage tonight.
“I don’t have a speech, I really don’t! We’re missing half the team tonight, I’ve got a feeling that the Newsreader will take out a lot of noms tonight,” she said.Model Simone Holtznagel said the night had been “mayhem” so far.
“Any excuse to put on a really long dress, it’s great,” she said.
For Kate Atkinson from Wentworth, coming back to the Logies was a “lovely way to get the cast back together”.
“It says a lot about the stamina of our cast and crew because we got through it and no one got sick,” she said.
Hit BINGE and Foxtel series Love Me is the most nominated drama of this year’s Logies.
Lead actor Bojana Novakovic is nominated for Most Popular Actress. She wore Steven Khalil on the red carpet while co-star Will Lodder, up for Most Popular New Talent, was dressed in a Trussardi tuxedo from Mr Fierze.
Lodder said the carpet was becoming very “congested”.
“It’s moving very slow and it’s definitely getting congested,” he said.
Meanwhile, costar Bojana Novakovic said it was because of how big the night is.
“It’s the Logies. It’s bigger than the Oscars, the fashion isn’t like this and the people aren’t like this at the Oscars,” she said.
Heather Mitchell is also nominated for her work on the hit BINGE series, up for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress. She stood out in a green Daniel Learmont Couture gown.
Shelley Craft, host of The Block, said this season of the home building show was “dirty, in all respects”.
“I can’t tell you how, you’ll have to watch,” she said
The star said building constraints affecting the rest of the world was also putting pressure on the show.
“To say the contestants are coping well would be a lie, I try to keep them looking forward to the auction at the end,” she said.
While TV’s night of nights once featured clothes borrowed from network wardrobe departments – not to forget the outrageous, spotlight-grabbing outfits worn by the likes of Jeannie Little and Susie Elelman – at Sunday night’s ceremony on the Gold Coast, designer styles are expected to be out in force.
Stylist Lana Wilkinson said stars will want to have a moment on Australian TV’s biggest stage.
“I think we’re going to see a lot of creativity from even some of the hair and makeup … we’ve been locked up for two years, so it’s going to be a big show and I can’t wait,” Wilkinson said.
Sam Mac who’s presenting an award, said he plans on enjoying his night as much as possible.
“I feel like it’s the Logies as long as there’s someone untidier than you, you’re fine,” he said.
He said he’s a longtime fan of the Logies and being able to “reward each other”.
“I think we should be proud of it, we can reward each other and hopefully embarrass ourselves and make it into articles we can share the next day,” she said.
END OF AN ERA FOR NEIGHBOURS
Neighbours stars walked the red carpet with demise of the show still yet to sink in.
The final scenes were filmed on June 10 with Ryan Moloney saying he is still “in denial”.
Longest serving cast member Stefan Dennis said he hadn’t cried yet. “It feels like we’re burying something,” Dennis said.
“I haven’t cried yet, maybe a little bit. I keep getting asked all the time how do I feel?
There’s so much going on, the unofficial wrap parties at the end of it. A couple of personal things so haven’t really had a lot of time to think. On top of that I’m trying to get used to not working because it’s been 44 years since I haven’t worked. In six months I’ll have a better answer for you.”
Jacinta Stapleton and April Rose Pengilly were standouts, wearing Zian Couture and Alin Le’Kal.
“My first Logies was probably 1997 and then with Stingers in the late 2000s,” Stapleton said.
“It’s great that Neighbours is being honoured tonight.”
Pengilly said: “My last scene was with Harold so it was icing on the cake.”
LOGIES STARS PREP FOR BIG NIGHT
For Gold Logie Nominee Hamish Blake, said it felt “strange” to be nominated but that it was lovely to be back on the red carpet.
“It’s always very surreal to be nominated for what I do,” he said.
“Really it’s just wandering around the room where people make Lego and being a pest.
The Big Brother, Voice, Holey Moley and Dancing With The Stars: All Stars host accessorised with Anton diamond jewellery, a Dior bag and shoes from Le Silla.
“I love the fashion side of it and I love the fact that it is a great place to showcase different designers, whether they are Australian or international, jewellery designers here or overseas, it is just one of the parts about the Logies that we love so much. That is why there is a red carpet special so bring it on, I love the fashion.”
Newly-appointed Masked Singer judge Abbie Chatfield revealed she had “drama” before the Logies ... as she had “forgotten her underwear”.
“I’ve forgotten undies. I have to run down to the Cotton On Body ... I have no undies, I have no undies,” Chatfield said on her Instagram story.
Nine presenters David Campbell, Leila McKinnon and Renee Bargh fronted the red carpet Logies telecast.
