Triple J prank: Media fooled on ARIAs red carpet by celebrity lookalikes

TRIPLE J breakfast hosts Ben and Liam wanted to see if they could sneak three listeners, who looked a lot like famous musicians, into the ARIAs. Spoiler: They did.

Memorable moments at the ARIA Awards

WELL played Triple J, well played.

Ben and Liam, who host the Triple J breakfast show, pulled off a prank on the ARIAs red carpet that almost upstaged that guy who flashed his d**k.

Almost.

Earlier this month, the broadcasters revealed they were working on something they called “Operation: Winterfell” and they told their listeners, “if you look like an Australian musician, we need to hear from you”.

They didn’t give away many details but teased their audience by saying they wanted to see how many people they could sneak into an event happening at the end of November.

It turns out they were talking about the ARIAs which were held in Sydney earlier this week and their mission was to trick other media outlets and photographers into thinking their lookalikes were the real artists.

And it bloody worked.

They found a bloke who looks just like Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, a very convincing Meg Mac lookalike and a guy who kind of looked similar to Adam Hyde from Peking Duk.

Arriving in a limo without official passes to the event, the lookalikes managed to walk straight onto the red carpet and were all summoned for chats by the hordes of entertainment reporters.

The Meg Mac lookalike was easily the most popular of the trio on the red carpet, posing for countless selfies and even being interviewed by Sunrise reporter James Tobin, who had been to a Meg Mac concert before.

There was an awkward moment when the Adam Hyde lookalike came face-to-face with the actual Adam Hyde from Peking Duk, but apart from that, Operation: Winterfell was a roaring success.
