Shameful obsession Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s Oscars duet exposed

Their sexually charged Oscars performance revealed something truly creepy — and it’s not their fault. It’s ours.

Oscars 2019: Gaga wins gold

It was the shot everyone was waiting for: Of Russian model Irina Shayk’s reaction after watching her boyfriend of four-years nearly, kinda make out with another woman six metres away from her.

During yesterday’s Academy Awards, Shayk’s bloke, Bradley Cooper took to the stage with his A Star is Born co-star Lady Gaga to perform Shallow, which was up for the Best Original Song gong.

From the moment they left their seats, the chemistry between Cooper and Gaga was absolutely sizzling. They held hands as they ascended the stairs before spending three minutes and 57 seconds staring so deeply into one another’s eyes that the Twitterverse nearly orgasmed.

The lingering way they drank each other in as they sang about falling in love, his arms around her waist, was so intense it felt like the audience of nearly 30 million was intruding on a deeply private moment between two lovers.

Except, obviously, his significant other (and his mother, mind) were sitting just metres away, having to watch this whole scene play out.

British muckraker Piers Morgan has now sternly castigated Cooper and Gaga, saying during an appearance on Good Morning Britain that the pair had “crossed a line”.

“It was the look of love. If you put the maths together you have her taking the engagement ring off and then staring at Bradley Cooper in a way I would say crosses a few lines,” Morgan opined.

(Gaga split from her fiance Christian Carino in the last month.)

Spice Girl Mel B was also appearing on GMB, and she said she felt “uncomfortable” for Shayk during the showstopping performance.

Sadly, being cast as a pitiable third-wheel is nothing new for Shayk, and this is the real shameful secret this duet has brought to the fore.

Ever since A Star Is Born hit the big screen last year, speculation has abounded that the film’s stars were more than just friends.

What must be frustrating for Shayk is not the question of whether her partner is being unfaithful (which there is ZERO evidence of) but the sheer force of millions of people desperately willing for it to be so.

What must it be like to have a huge portion of the internet endlessly hoping your boyfriend will hook up with his work wife? Tough, I’m sure.

But … I’m not quite buying the outrage on Shayk’s behalf.

Sure, it would not have been fun for the supermodel to watch the father of her child (she and Cooper have a one-year-old daughter) sharing such an intimate moment with another woman on live TV.

However, that’s his job. He’s a goddamn actor — he has to sell the fantasy, which will ultimately help shift a few more DVDs (do people still buy those?) and notch up soundtrack sales.

For the movie to work, audiences had to deeply invest in the tragic love story between Ally and Jackson.

And for Shayk to be threatened, she would have to believe that there really was something going on and she clearly doesn’t.

When Gaga and Cooper finished their lusty performance of Shallow, Shayk was the first person in the Dolby Theatre to get to her feet and to give the pair a standing ovation.

To suggest she would have been jealous watching the duo belt out Shallow means assuming that Shayk was taking this performance at face value and clearly she wasn’t. By all accounts, she beamed for much of the ceremony.

A ‘source’ has now told Us Weekly that this is all a storm in a champagne coupe: “Irina knows that Bradley and Gaga are artists. It’s a non-issue for her. They were in character putting on an Oscar performance.”

I’m glad the camera at the Oscars didn’t quickly cut to Shayk when Gaga and Cooper finished singing yesterday. Any sort of reaction shot would have been a tacit confirmation that Shayk really has something to worry about.

It would have just given credence to the collective libidinous fantasies of millions of people, and THAT would have been a huge disservice to Shayk.

She clearly doesn’t think so, so pandering to that delusion is when things really start to cross the line.
