Hollywood’s A-list have arrived at the Oscars, with Nicole Kidman leading the best dressed brigade in a strapless, baby blue gown.
The Australian star, 54, arrived with her husband, country star Keith Urban, also 54, at The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, where she is up for Best Actress.
Being The Ricardos star Kidman chose Armani for her Oscars look, turning heads in the backless, floor-length seal-coloured gown that featured a peplum-like ruffled skirt atop a column dress.
The previous Oscar-winner teamed the sleek look – yet another Armani Prive showstopper – with a red manicure and matching bold, red lips.
Meantime, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker – who is performing at the ceremony – showed off PDA on the red carpet, in a very unusual move for the conservative Oscars crowd.
Vanessa Hudgens sported a low-cut Michael Kors gown with the trend of the night – a plunging neckline.
Tracee Ellis Ross, and Oscars co-host, Amy Schumer, also sported the sexy low-cut trend, while Dune star Timothee Chalamet went shirtless, flashing skin under an undone black Louis Vuitton blazer teamed with Cartier accessories.
Chalamet’s no-shirt look is believed to have been an Oscars first.
In custom-Chanel, Kristen Stewart – who played Princess Diana in Diana – sported an open shirt teamed with shorts, which defied the Oscars dress code.
E! style commentator Zanna Roberts Rassi said cleavage would feature in a big way on Hollywood’s best dressed stars.
“You’ve got the cut outs, you’re just wearing bra tops, embellishments, that’s where the detail is being played now, which is quite unusual,” New York-based Rassi, an ambassador for buy now pay later service Afterpay and co-host of E!’s Oscars coverage, said.
“There’s barely a chest that hasn’t been decorated. Generally, clothes are sexier – that’s where we’re going.”
Pam & Tommy star Lily James made an entrance in baby pink Versace, which was unrecognisable from her turn as blonde bombshell Pamela Anderson in the Disney+ series.
In Gucci, Best Actress nominee Jessica Chastain continued the bubblegum-toned trend wearing a glittering apricot and violet-coloured gown.
Australian actor Kodi Smit-McPhee, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, sported a baby blue suit and matching shirt, complete with Elvis-style neck detail and flatform shoes.
Smit-McPhee, 25, has been branded the breakout fashion star of this Hollywood award season, having worn Louis Vuitton to the BAFTAs and Alexander McQueen to a pre-Oscars event and styled by Jared Eng, of the site Just Jared.
“I try to vary the brand, vary the silhouettes, vary the (colours),” Eng told The Hollywood Reporter, of dressing Kodi.
“And I think that’s why people are getting excited about Kodi, because he is able to pull them all off,” Eng added, saying: “fashion can really help elevate anyone’s career if they play their cards right”.
