White elephant in the Logies room was rivalry between networks

NOT everyone thinks the Logies are TV’s ‘night of nights’, just ask Kochie. The Channel 7 personality was one of many who skipped the awards show.

NOT everyone thinks the Logies are TV’s ‘night of nights’, just ask Kochie.

The Sunrise co-host gave the Melbourne awards show a miss along with Channel 7 colleagues Samantha Armytage and Natalie Barr who preferred to stay in Sydney to cover “breaking news”.

Kochie couldn’t help but take a dig at the show which is broadcast on the Nine network, tweeting: “What Logies?’ to his 121,000 followers while he spent the day watching footy at the Adelaide Oval.

Sunrise executive producer Michael Pell, who did attend the awards show, confirmed to Daily Telegraph earlier that the Sunrise co-hosts would not be hitting the red carpet because there were “more important things going on”.

But as manypointed out, the network has never had a problem covering the news in previous years which suggested network rivalry was behind the decision.

“The Seven network’s Sunrise stars did not attend as both Seven and Ten expressed their displeasure at a number of recent decisions ahead of the awards, including TV Week’s refusal to acknowledge Neighbours’ 30th anniversary in any way, and changes to a number of categories,” The Australian reported.

Despite the dark cloud, a final tally of the night shows a pretty even spread of awards with SBS taking home two, ABC and Foxtel scoring three each, Channel 10 winning four, Channel 7 gaining five and Channel 9 taking out 6.

The Project’s Carrie Bickmore won the Gold Logie and Most Popular Presenter while Channel 7’s Home and Away won Most Popular Drama. Seven also scored the coveted Most Outstanding News Coverage award for their Sydney Siege coverage.

“We’ve got 140 staff at the Channel 7 Martin Place office and a lot of them went through counselling after that,” said Melissa Doyle on accepting the award.

“It’s one of those things, it would be inhuman if you said it didn’t affect you, we’ve still got people dealing with it now.”

Meanwhile Channel 7 Morning Show co-host Larry Emdur was also a no-show at the Logies but not for reasons you might think. According to Larry he’s been banned by his network because of a wandering middle finger in photographs.
