Sam Pang stuns at the Logie Award 2024 as host for second year

Sam Pang didn’t hold back as Logies host even taking the mickey out of the Seven network’s trainwreck year.

Logies host Sam Pang roasts Channel 7

Sam Pang went there. The returning Logies host opened his monologue for the 2024 awards by going straight for the elephant in the room, skewering his employer and the Logies broadcaster, the Seven network, for finding “themselves in the news this year.”

“Firstly, Channel 7, well, I’m just letting you all know I’m going to say whatever I want tonight,” he said.

“I stand before you safe in the knowledge that whatever I say, this network will defend me in court. And with their impeccable record in defamation cases over the last 12 months I reckon I’ll be fine.

“Full disclosure; I’m not getting paid by Channel 7 tonight. Instead, for the next 12 months, they’re paying my rent. Which is handy as they’ll know what address to send the Thai masseuse to.”

The zinger count on Pang’s monologue to open the 2024 show was as high as his celebrated debut last year.

Home and Away star Ray Meagher laughed when Pang suggested he was “sitting there nervously, waiting to see if you’re included in the In Memoriam package.”

But The Voice coaches Guy Sebastian and Kate Miller-Heidke were not chuckling and looked … well, it seemed like they didn’t know how to look … when their American co-star LeAnn Rimes was given a serve from Pang.

“The Voice is nominated for Best Entertainment Program and they’re changing it up this season,” Pang said.

“Joining Guy Sebastian are two new superstar coaches – Adam Lambert, who you’d know from Queen, and LeAnn Rimes, who you’d know from Googling, ‘Who is LeAnn Rimes?’

Pang delivered another topical sledge when explaining the absence of American superstar Sigourney Weaver, nominated for The Lost Flowers Of Alice Hart.

“Now, unfortunately, Sigourney is not here tonight. She’s in hospital after running into Peter Costello at the airport.”

Last year’s car-crash ending courtesy of the cringe-worthy attempts at humour by Gold Logie presenter Daryl Somers and winner Sonia Kruger also copped a Pang pasting.

“You may recall last year the Gold Logie was presented by Australian television royalty Daryl Somers who playfully attempted to auction off the Gold statue to the seven nominees. Now, we won’t be doing that again this year … simply because last year it started as a live auction but it finished as a silent auction.”
