A Place to Call Home stars Abby Earl and David Berry hoping for Logie nominations today

AFTER Foxtel revived the fan favourite series, A Place to Call Home’s stars are among those hotly tipped to grab Logie nominations.

THE 2016 TV WEEK Logie nominations will be revealed at a star-studded event later today at Melbourne’s Crown Casino.

And with whispers that period drama A Place to Call Home is set to feature heavily in the nominations, stars Abby Earl and David Berry will be among those in the crowd anxiously waiting to hear the result.

Earl, who was nominated for her role as Anna Bligh in 2014, says while she hopes the show and her co-stars do well, she’s hoping not to hear her name called on the day.

“It was such a nerve wracking experience to be going to the Logies and be nominated, I just felt sick all night,” she laughed.

“I just hope the show gets acknowledgment, that would be amazing.”

When A Place to Call Home was originally on Channel 7 it was never nominated.
Could the considerably more dramatic and darker version on Foxtel — which was commissioned after a concerted fan campaign — fare better this time around?

“I think the show has an incredible chance this year,” said Berry.

“It was a really strong season and once it moved to Foxtel the actors had a renewed verve for the show. We had the confidence of the audience and the fans who were really behind it. I think that radiates on the screen. The love the audience gave the show we tried to put back. So I think our chances are really good — fingers crossed!”

The cast believe season three on Foxtel breathed renewed life into A Place to Call Home.

Other shows expected to feature heavily in the nominations include 2015’s top watched drama 800 Words (Seven), critically acclaimed The Principal (SBS) and perennial Logies favourite Home and Away (Seven).

But TV WEEK editor Emma Nolan said that far from being a list of usual suspects, there will be quite a few surprises among this year’s nominees.

“It’s one of the most diverse lists that I’ve seen in a long time,” Nolan said.

“Gold is the most interesting (category). It’s quite different from what we’re used to seeing in terms of everything really. From show genres, ages, genders, everything. It’s a good list. I do think it will surprise a few people though.”

The full list of nominations will be revealed at 4pm on Sunday.
The 2016 TV WEEK Logie Awards take place on Sunday, May 8.
