Logies 2019: Winners and highlights from the award ceremony

Tom Gleeson has delivered one of the biggest upsets in Logies history, becoming the first ABC personality to win Gold since Norman Gunston in 1976.

Comedian Tom Gleeson has won the Gold Logie, beating fellow nominee Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis who picked up two Logies already Gleeson ripped into the Nine Network and targeted Karl Stefanovic.

His win came after he launched a smear campaign over the awards. The network racked up a surprise total of 10 statues, following Gleeson's shock  win over stablemate Georgiadis who looked set to win.

Earlier, Gleeson opened the night with a speech that attacked Karl Stefanovic and Nine.

"I've wrecked it. I'm oh, so, sorry. When I first got asked to do the opening I thought great we'll clearly I haven't won," he said as the crowd laughed.

"I know how the rundown works. I think the reason they ask you to do the opening is because Channel 9 has run out of stars."

He wasn't shy in ribbing Karl Stefanovic and Nine.

"They have new rule on breakfast too TV if you are too entertaining they fire you. Where is Karl? If you are on breakfast TV if you are too entertaining they fire you," he said.

The Hard Quiz host told News Corp on the red carpet he's not taking the night too seriously, even though he has started a smear campaign about the awards night, which has raised eyebrows.

“I’ve really told everyone exactly what I think to their face," he said.

"I’m coming here and people might not be impressed. I’m not taking it too seriously. Even if someone else wins, it doesn’t matter.”

Last year Gleeson bolstered the campaign of Grant Denyer to win Gold after his show Family Feud had been axed, and this year the comedian made good on his promise to “fight dirty” to secure the trophy for himself.

Gleeson was up against Network Ten’s Amanda Keller, ABC gardening guru Costa Georgiadis, Neighbours favourite Eve Morey, Nine Network’s Rodger Corser, Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac and Waleed Aly from The Project.

This is the second time Keller has been nominated for Gold, after teaming up with last year’s winner Denyer for the reboot of reality series Dancing With The Stars.

International star guests include the cast from Nine’s US comedy Young Sheldon - a spin-off from The Big Bang Theory, as well as American boy band Why Don’t We. The Voice coaches Delta Goodrem and Guy Sebastian are also taking the stage along with former Eurovision contestant Jessica Mauboy.

Foxtel, which has a record 20 nominations, had stars representing the network from programs including A Place to Call Home, Wentworth, Secret City and Selling Houses Australia.
