Logies 2018: Everything you need to know

IT’S the glitziest night in the Australian entertainment industry and it’s almost upon us. Here’s what you need to know about the Logies.

Stunning looks on the Logies Red Carpet 2017

THIS year’s Logie Awards and almost here and the excitement is building.

Here’s everything we know so far about Australian TV’s night of nights.

WHAT ARE THE LOGIE AWARDS?

The Logie Awards celebrate Australian television and the people who work in the industry, both in front of and behind the camera.

The award show started way back in 1958 meaning the Logies are officially turning 60 this year.

The awards are split into two categories. There’s the ‘Most Popular’ categories which are voted on by the public, and then there’s the ‘Most Outstanding’ categories which are voted on by a group of Australian TV industry peers.

WHERE ARE THIS YEAR’S LOGIE AWARDS?

The Logies are usually held in Melbourne but this year they’ll be held on the Gold Coast for the first time ever.

The move came after the Victorian government announced last year they were withdrawing funding for the event.

It will be held on the Gold Coast for the next four years starting with this year’s awards which will be held on Sunday, July 1 at The Star Gold Coast.

The red carpet and ceremony will be broadcast live on Channel 9.

Sophie Monk, who is from the Gold Coast, is missing this year’s Logies due to her hosting role on Love Island.

WHO IS HOSTING THE 2018 LOGIE AWARDS?

The Logies haven’t had an actual host since 2011 when Shane Bourne was the MC.

Ever since the Logies have featured a series of different personalities from each network presenting throughout the night.

Comedian Dave Hughes has opened the ceremony for the past two years with hilarious monologues about TV personalities and hopefully he’ll do the same this year.

HOW DO YOU VOTE FOR THE MOST POPULAR CATEGORIES?

From Friday, June 29 voting will open for the “Most Popular” categories and it will remain open until the end of the Logies red carpet telecast on July 1.

The categories the public vote on are:

Most Popular Actor

Most Popular Actress

Most Popular TV Presenter

Most Popular New Talent

Most Popular Drama Program

Most Popular Entertainment Program

Most Popular Comedy Program

Most Popular Reality Program

Most Popular Lifestyle Program

HALL OF FAME

The Logie Hall of Fame was introduced in 1982 and shockingly only three women have been inducted.

Last year Kerri-Anne Kennerley was entered into the Hall of Fame, following in the footsteps of female legends Noni Hazlehurst (2016) and Ruth Cracknell (2001).

Four TV shows have also been entered in the Hall of Fame: Four Corners, Neighbours, Play School and Home and Away.

There’s no word yet on who’ll be given the honour this year.
