Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson stun pub crowd with surprise performance
Aussie star Hugh Jackman has climbed on top of a New York bar to serenade gobsmacked patrons after hitting the red carpet with girlfriend Sutton Foster.
Hollywood superstars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson have brought the house down at Australia’s unofficial embassy in New York with a surprise performance at Old Mates pub.
After making his second red carpet appearance alongside new love Sutton Foster at the Gotham Awards, the couple headed downtown with Hudson for an impromptu show at the watering hole that has become a regular spot for Aussie celebrity sightings since it opened earlier this year.
Jackman and Hudson have been promoting their new film Song Sung Blue, which follows two performers who form a Neil Diamond tribute band. They were awarded the first ever Gotham Musical Tribute at the awards.
Still dressed to the nines, they then visited Old Mates where they thrilled pub goers with a live performance, including the Neil Diamond classic Sweet Caroline.
At one point, Jackman climbed on top of the bar to serenade the crowd at the Australian pub.
Jackman was also given the honour of ringing the Bells Beach Ripcurl Pro trophy donated to the venue by Mick Fanning. Old Mates shouts a round for the entire bar when it is rung.
Jackman settled his divorce with wife of almost three decades Deborra-Lee Furness in June.
The Wolverine star and actress Foster have largely kept their relationship out of the public eye after they were first pictured together earlier this year in California.
But over the past week they have taken the relationship public, with Jackman last week sharing a photo of Foster performing at New York jazz restaurant Cafe Carlyle.
He captioned the image on Instagram: “(Sutton) performing during the holidays at Cafe Carlyle … now that’s an iconic NY night! And, truly magical.”
They then appeared together on the red carpet of the Song Sung Blue premier and again at the Gotham Awards.
Foster shared behind the scenes photos and videos of their impromptu trip to Old Mates.
“Such an awesome night celebrating Hugh and Kate and all things Song Sung Blue at the Gotham Awards! And then a surprise appearance at Old Mates!,” she wrote on Instagram.
Foster kept the comments turned off on her post which is the first she has shared of Jackman since their relationship began.
Jackman’s Instagram posts featuring Foster received mixed reactions from fans with some commenting it was nice to see him happy and others criticising relationship with the Younger actress.
After filing for divorce earlier this year, Furness hit out at Jackman with a public statement.
“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” she said.
“It’s a profound wound that cuts deep.”
Furness said she remained grateful for her relationship with Jackman.
“I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience,” she said.
“Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose.
“It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.”
