A killer dress, some smart posing and a smile is all it takes to catapult a semi-famous starlet into a screen siren.
We look back over the dresses that have stolen the sartorial spotlight.
Kylie Minogue, 1987: Before you judge, consider the era. Kylie has absolutely nailed the late eighties trends, but with an edge.
The angular hemmed leather skirt is perfectly juxtaposed with the flouncy sleeves of the jacket, while her wildly permed hair is sleeked back into a net to show off her temple eye shadow. It’s a perfectly balanced ensemble with so many wrongs it’s still right.
Bec Hewitt (nee Cartwright), 2005: Everyone wanted to be Bec and everyone wanted this classic “noughties” halter-neck, maxi dress.
The epitome of the Aussie beach babe with her sun drenched tresses, Bec brought a pop of colour to the red carpet in this Lisa Ho dress that became iconic.

Asher Keddie, 2011: Keddie bough the va-va-voom in this sublime gown that showcased her silhouette.
The corsetry was reminiscent of old Hollywood while her hourglass figure had critics praising the Aussie A-lister.
Kate Richie, 2012: This Steven Khalil sequin gown was all it took for Richie to prove she was no longer little Sally from Summer Bay.
Seen here with the designer, Ritchie stole the sartorial spotlight in an elegant frock that was praised for it’s spectacular midnight blue hue as well as it’s spangled beadwork.
Jessica Marais, 2010: The rising star has zero style slip ups in this lingerie inspired gown with sheer panelling and lace detail.
Asher Keddie, 2012: This dress was sheer delight, and rightly stole the sartorial spotlight.
It was the J’Aton dress that was worthy of any red carpet around the world; Cannes, The Oscars, The Globes … and was just a too good for the Logies, there were no competitors for the best gown gong that year.
Belinda Emmett, 1999: Gold Logie winner Lisa McCune wore a similar style baby blue dress on the same night, but Belinda Emmett’s was fit for a princess.
Strapless designs, chiffon and satin bodices were hugely popular, and Emmett perfected the prom-night style.
Rebecca Judd, 2012: The vintage Toni Maticevski dress was a souffle show stopper.
A piece of art that deserved to be on a red carpet, rather than locked away in the Melbourne designer’s archive.
