CATE Blanchett is strengthening Australia’s Oscars hopes after being honoured with an award for her role in ‘Carol’ at the 27th Annual Palm Springs Film Festival in the US.

CATE Blanchett is doing her bit to keep Australia’s Oscars hopes alive.
She picked up an award for her role in upcoming film Carol at the 27th Annual Palm Springs Film Festival - which also marks the start of the 2016 awards season.
Other big names to win included Johnny Depp for Black Mass, Matt Damon for The Martian and Brie Larson for her role in Room.
Irish actress Saoirse Ronan presented Blanchett with her award, and was met with a quick witted ribbing from the Aussie.
“Thank you, Saoirse, you can get off the stage now. You’re too young, talented and gorgeous. It’s all me,” Blanchett said.
Keep an eye out for the Oscars nominations which will be announced at 12:30am AEST on January 15, 2016.
Blanchett’s film Carol will be released in Australia on January 14.
