The Australian Academy of Cinema Television Arts has unveiled the nominees for the 2022 awards ceremony.

Aussie director Baz Luhrmann’s ambitious biopic Elvis is ahead of the pack with 15 nominations in the film category for the AACTAs, followed by The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson and Three Thousand Years of Longing, which each have 13 nods.

Elvis, which grossed more than $456 million worldwide since its June release, is nominated for Best Film and Luhrmann for Best Direction, while Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge and costume designer Catherine Martin are all up for accolades.

On the small screen, ABC’s Mystery Road: Origin boasts 15 nominations, while Foxtel/BINGE dramas LOVE ME and The Twelve trail closely behind with 10 apiece.

BINGE is the most nominated streaming service at this year’s AACTA Awards with 20 nominations.

BINGE Executive Director Alison Hurbert-Burns said: “It’s been just over two years since BINGE launched, so I am extremely proud that we are the most nominated streaming service at this year’s AACTA Awards. To see our first original, LOVE ME, recognised with 10 nominations including Best Drama Series is such an honour and made possible through our incredible cast and creatives along with Warners Bros. and our producing partners. LOVE ME is back in production, and we can’t wait to bring Season 2 to BINGE viewers next year.”

The AACTAs will be held in Sydney on December 7, with audience choice nominations to be announced closer to that date.
