Celebrities, VIP guests and socialites toasted a $50m revamp of the David Jones flagship store in Bourke St on Wednesday night.
A-listers including former politician Julie Bishop, Australian Ballet artistic director David Hallberg, MasterChef judges Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo, Heartbreak High stars Ayesha Madon and Brodie Townsend.
Actors Bernard Curry, Geraldine Hakewill, Mavournee Hazel and Gyton Grantley, hospitality giants Chyka and Bruce Keebaugh, musicians Thelma Plum and Harvey Sutherland, designer Pip Edwards, model Victoria Lee, former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Molly Rogers, Lord Mayor Sally Capp and influencer Nadia Bartel.
The six-floor renovation includes Dior, Louis Vuitton and Gucci stores.
David Jones chief executive Scott Fyfe said the refurbishment marked a “new chapter” for the store and ushers in “a new era of retail in Australia”.
Leong said: “It’s a very chic black carpet event because we are in Melbourne, so I think it’s very fitting. I can’t wait to see what they’ve done with the store. It’s my favourite.”
Bishop said: “I’m delighted to be invited to events like this. It gives me a chance to dress up, have a glamorous evening out and support Australian fashion”.
Bartel stepped out with a girlfriend in Dion Lee but declined to comment; she will be attending the Caulfield Cup on Saturday as a friend of the event.
