Collingwood star Chloe Molloy has committed to the club and has urged her teammates to resist big offers from the expansion teams.
“I’m going to be at the Pies for another year and hopefully expansion doesn’t impact the Pies,’’ Molloy said.
“I didn’t want to jump off, we had a few players go down, I was operating at 70 percent with my back and we had a bit of adversity but we’re looking to bounce back and I wanted to ensure I’m around.
“A few girls have been made offers but we’ve got a pretty close relationship and I think we’ll stay together.”
Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Sydney will join the AFLW competition ahead of the 2022-23 season, rounding out all 18 clubs.
Bulldogs captain Ellie Blackburn also said she would stay at the club.
“I have decided to stay and it’s been interesting but I’m really passionate about staying and seeing success for our football club,’’ she said.
Molloy and Blackburn joined other AFLW stars in turning on the glamour for the W Awards celebration at Crown Palladium on Tuesday night.
The league’s top women footballers swapped their jumpers and shorts for glittering gowns and chic pant suits at the coral carpet ahead of Saturday’s grand final between Melbourne and Adelaide.
Big names stepping out included Darcy Vescio, Katie Brennan, Maddie Prespakis, Emma Kearney, Monique Conti, Kaitlyn Ashmore, Emily Bates and Hannah Priest.
Melbourne players gathered at Marvel Stadium, while Adelaide players gathered at Adelaide Oval under AFL protocols to minimise risk ahead of the decider.
Richmond star Conti stepped out with her partner of a year, Melbourne United basketballer Davo Hickey.
“I’m having a bit of a break and then going into basketball for the winter,” Conti said.
“I’m keen to get started into footy very soon. The more footy the better.”
Brisbane players Jesse Wardlaw and Zimmorlei Farquharson made a statement in blazers, sunglasses and bralettes.
“We styled and paid for it ourselves, we knew we wanted to wear suits and match a little bit,” Wardlaw said.
”We’re trying to bring a bit of swagger to the awards.”
Singer and footy fan G Flip flew back from LA two days ago and couldn’t wait to join the players.
“I sang last year and this time I’m just invited me for the good times,” she said.
“I’m singing at the Grand Prix and then another festival after that.
“This is my favourite sport so it’s good timing.
“I love the Collingwood Football Club, love the whole squad and the team. I’ve got ‘Go pies’ tattooed on my arm and even though I’m living overseas I have my AFL pass online and watch at all hours.
“The after party was at my house last year. A few champagnes after and you never know.”The night was hosted by Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones and Brihony Dawson, featuring the All-Australian team announcement, as well as the rising star, leading goalkicker, mark and goal of the year, and the much anticipated best and fairest award.
