AFLW awards night: All the glamour as stars hit the red carpet
The AFLW’s best players traded their guernseys for glamorous gowns and daring suits as they hit the coral carpet at the league’s best and fairest awards night. See all the pictures.
It’s the cool younger sister to the Brownlow.
Just as we have seen the AFLW competition evolve and progress as it hits double figures in its 10th season, so too has the W Awards.
But rather than metre upon metre of satin, tiers of tulle, or the much favoured sheer naked dress, the AFLW best and fairest awards serves some sass with a serious side of glam.
The AFLW players traded their guernseys for gowns and suits bringing fierce and fun energy on the coral carpet at Centrepiece before the awards ceremony.
No longer opting for a power-dressing pantsuit moment, the tone was contemporary and all about evening wear with yellows and chocolates the clear colour flavours.
The only player to win three premierships at three different clubs, North Melbourne’s Libby Birch was oozing glamour in a strapless navy blue velvet look before Saturday’s grand final against Brisbane.
General manager of AFLW Emma Moore was bringing boss power, bringing the wow in a one-shouldered red gown from Melbourne’s Toni Maticevski.
Hawthorn’s Aine McDonagh brought more wow in a lacy showstopper.
Fremantle star Emma O’Driscoll, wearing the Manning Cartel red carpet dress of the moment in lavender sequined-scales had a new teammate in media personality Abbie Chatfield, wearing a strapless steel showstopper with hip cutout. Bringing some smoking hot glamour the pair interviewed guests for a TikTok livestream.
While the big business of the Brownlow can feel like it has been styled right down to the manicured nail and eyelash extension, the W Awards looks were fresh and brought out the personality.
Well played!
