More than 16,000 readers voted whether they agreed with the 30 bands in the poll, or felt they were overrated or underrated.
Readers upgraded Cold Chisel from No.14 to No.2, Crowded House from No.12 to No.3, the Angels from No.27 to No.5 and Skyhooks from No.28 to No.6.
Icehouse leapt from No.18 to No.7, Divinyls from No.24 to No.9 and Hoodoo Gurus from No.25 to No.10.
INXS dropped from No.3 to No.4, the Bee Gees from No.2 to No.7.
Newer artists fared the worst in the readers’ poll — with Hilltop Hoods, Wolfmother, Angus and Julia Stone, Tame Impala, Empire of the Sun and The Veronicas all scoring the lowest votes.
The least popular band was Christian rockers Hillsong United. Their global record sales saw them ranked at No.10 in our poll, but only 23 readers agreed with that — the band scored the highest overrated score at 552.
Meanwhile the most common bands readers wanted included in the list included Sherbet, Easybeats, Rose Tattoo, Daddy Cool, the Black Sorrows, Australian crawl, Hunters & Collectors, Mondo Rock, Screaming Jets, The Church, Masters Apprentices, Sunnyboys, Yothu Yindi and Mental as Anything.
