First round university offers released for 2020

More than 36,000 students have received tertiary offers in a new early round, which caused confusion as some students missed the deadline to change preferences — but it’s not too late. Check out the ATAR cut off for your preferred course here.

More than 36,000 students will receive a tertiary offer today as a new earlier round of placements has been made for the first time.

A total 32 Victorian institutions have made offers today for 1116 courses of 1709 possible programs.

The first round offers have been made to 36,004 domestic students, with 33,243 for higher education courses and 2765 for vocational education and training.

2019 ATAR RESULTS REVEALED

A further 2005 offers have been made to international students who completed VCE.

Those who applied for medicine, some music programs or other courses that rely on a range of criteria — interviews or admission tests — will not get their offers until the traditional round in January.

Students who took the International Baccalaureate (IB) and are yet to get their results will also receive offers in January.

So too will any mature age applicants, students from interstate except for QLD and any NZ pupils who applied.

Any students looking for the ATAR cut-off for a preferred course can search the below database for the lowest selection ranks of courses taking part in the December early offer.

EARLY OFFERS

Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) director Catherine Wills said the early offers were made in a partnership with “our member institutions” so students had answers about their future studies before Christmas and New Year.

“The December offer round provides certainty for more students and allows many regional students extra time to make arrangements for accommodation and transport prior to starting tertiary study,” she said.

“The new December round is an exciting collaboration between VTAC and Victorian universities, TAFE institutes, and independent tertiary colleges which has been made possible by enhancements to the powerful and flexible VTAC application system.”

The new early offer created some confusion among students who only had three days to change preferences after receiving their ATAR.

The Herald Sun was told of some students who forgot or did not realise the cut off date had been brought forward to last Saturday, and did not change preferences in time.

Any students wishing to change their preferences before the second round of offers — released on January 15 — can do so from 4pm today until 4pm on Friday.

A further chance to change preferences before the second round offer is from 10am to 4pm on January 2.

MORE EDUCATION NEWS

Ms Wills said for students who did not receive an offer today “all of your preferences will be considered in the January round”.

“If you’re unsure about your next steps, plenty of support is available from schools and tertiary institutions,” she said.

“I encourage you to access the quality careers services available at all Victorian secondary schools or through VTAC Careers Hub.”

All courses — including those that made offers today — will take part in the second round of offers on January 15.

Check out the VTAC website for information on which courses took part in today’s offer round.
