The richest school in Melbourne’s east rakes in more than $320 million in three years, tightly held school statistics reveal.
An independent analysis of school financial records from the MySchool website have shown the massive amount of money some schools make every year, and how little some schools are forced to scrape by on.
The figures reveal Wesley College, which has campuses in Glen Waverley, Melbourne’s CBD and Elsternwick, made a gross income of $321.6 million from 2015-17.
The region’s second richest school was Melbourne Grammar School, which had a gross income of $226.2 million during the three-year period.
Carey Baptist Grammar School in Kew was third with $211.8 million.
The figures include all fees, charges and parental contributions as well as government funding and any other private sources during 2015-17.
They do not include any deductions for capital works or debt servicing. The analysis does not include special schools or schools that did not have complete financial data in MySchool for one or more of the three years.
Olinda Primary School had the lowest gross income of any school in Melbourne’s east. It made just $1.3 million over the three-year period.
The region’s most expensive school was St Catherine’s School, in Toorak, where the average amount parents had to fork out in fees, charges and contributions in 2017 was $31,147.
Melbourne Girls Grammar, in South Yarra, had the region’s second highest average parental contributions with $30,893 and Ruyton Girls’ School, Kew, came third with $30,644.
