A low-life thief has left a school in Point Cook without toilets and running water after they stole a water meter and pipe at the weekend.

Staff and students at Saltwater P-9 returned to school today to find there was no running water.

The school was forced to buy bottled water and walk students across the road to an IGA supermarket to use the toilets.

Principal Jackie Daniali told upset parents of the theft this morning, urging them to collect children if they wanted to.

“Unfortunately, over the weekend a major water pipe was stolen from the school,” she said.

“As a result we do not have running water. We are purchasing water bottles for students’ drinking water and are taking them across the road in supervised groups to access bathrooms.”

CityWest Water and a plumber were working to rectify the problem.

School finishes today and Easter holidays have been brought forward as the state tries to flatten the coronavirus curve.

“It is disheartening that at times like these, people would resort to stealing objects that would have such an impact on student and staff health and wellbeing,” Ms Daniali told families.

Parents took to social media to express their disappointment.

“This is disgusting, like we all don’t have enough to deal with ATM I feel for you all and greatful (sic) that you are looking out for our kids you all do such an amazing job,” one said.

“As if the staff and teachers aren’t going through enough. Thank you for all your hard work and for everything you are doing for the community,” another commented.

Victoria Police said it was investigating the theft.

Victoria Police confirmed that Werribee police have received a report of a theft from a Point Cook primary school.

“Police have been told that a water meter was stolen after thieves gained access to a locked cage in the school ground over the weekend,” police said.

“Police received the report just after 11am today, March 23, and are still to attend the location.”

Investigators are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious at the Kirra Place school grounds to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
