Free Aussie books announced for 60,000 preps
As 60,000 prep students prepare to launch into school, free book packs are being prepared to catapult them into learning. These are the Aussie books they’ll get to take home.

Edward the emu will welcome Victoria’s tiniest students to school as books come alive to catapult kids into education.
Aussie stories featuring emus, galahs and silver buttons will be given to every public prep student as they begin 13 years of education next week.
Five books will feature in a free library bag for every preppie, which will include activities, a ruler, water bottle, booklets and stickers.
Almost 60,000 preps across 1200 schools will receive copies of books by Aussie authors, with titles Silver Buttons, The Dress-Up Box, Where is Galah?, Hello from Nowhere and Edward the Emu.

The books will also be produced in braille for blind students.
Education Minister James Merlino encouraged parents to read with their kids at home to help increase their vocabulary and develop the link between spoken and written words.
“The first day of Prep is a huge step for students and parents, we want to make sure that the education students receive at school continues at home,” he said.
