The merged CBC St Kilda and Presentation College Windsor co-ed school will be called St Mary’s College.

Edmund Rice Education Australia, which runs the boys’ only CBC St Kilda, vowed to take in girls left without a Catholic education when the Presentation Sisters pulled the pin on PCW in July, last year, citing dwindling enrolments.

PCW, which opened in 1874, closes this year.

A group formed between the two schools, has been working on the CBC Reimagined project to open inner Melbourne’s only Catholic co-ed.

Obtaining registration and the lockdown saw open days at the two sites, located either side of Dandenong Rd in Windsor and East St Kilda, cancelled.

St Mary’s College will start with less than 100 girls. Girls will be outnumbered by boys by more than four to one but principal Terry Blizzard was confident of increasing enrolments in 2022.

“We understand it will take us a little while. We are excited about a new era for these two historic institutions,” he said.

“While the name of the school has changed, the commitment to our faith, values, strong communities and quality learning programs will remain priorities as young women and men share their educational journeys together.”

The schools have history of collaboration, particularly in VCE subjects.

Next to the CBC campus is the St Mary’s Primary School feeder school.

CBC house names will stay and the PCW laurel has been added to the crest.

Consultation on uniforms will start next year.

CBC is the alma mater of media celebrity Eddie McGuire who famously travelled from working class Broadmeadows to attend the school on a scholarship.

McGuire’s two sons attended an exclusive private school.

Former Labor MP Anna Burke and journalist Jana Wendt attended PCW.
