Victorian vaccination rates by area: How does your area compare?

A regional Victorian centre is leading the field in Covid vaccinations while one part of Melbourne is at the bottom of the jab ladder. See where your area ranks.

Under 30s bear the brunt of COVID-19 Delta strain infections

Residents in Melbourne’s northwestern suburbs are the least protected against the potentially deadly Covid-19 virus.

New Covid-19 vaccination figures obtained by the Herald Sun show which Victorian areas have the highest number of people inoculated.

Geelong has the highest percentage of fully vaccinated people aged over 15 at 25.9 per cent.

At least one in two people in Bendigo have also had a shot in the arm, making it the region with the most first doses at 52.6 per cent.

The data comes as Scott Morrison last week announced national vaccination rates of 70 per cent and 80 per cent were needed to prevent lockdowns and reopen Australia.

But Melbourne’s northwest is trailing in comparison, with just one in three people there receiving a vaccine.

It also has the lowest fully vaccinated rate in the state at only 15.6 per cent.

This is followed closely by people in Melbourne’s west, where 34.8 per cent of residents have had one dose and 16.5 per cent have had two.

Melbourne’s south east has the second lowest fully vaccinated rate at 16 per cent, however 36.4 per cent have had a shot.

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese is calling on the Morrison government to give $300 handouts to people who get a Covid-19 jab before December 1.

But Finance Minister Simon Birmingham swiftly rejected the incentive on Tuesday morning.

The geographical data was sourced from the Australian Immunisation Register at August 1 and is combined with Australian Bureau of Statistics resident data.
