COVID, bullets and lost love: Slain bikie's final interview

Notorious Melbourne bikie Shane Bowden was dealing with a lot in his last few weeks of life. In his final interview he talks his COVID diagnosis, the shooting that led to him fleeing to Queensland and his plan to win back his lost love.

Melbourne bikie Shane Bowden has been shot dead in an execution-style killing on the Gold Coast, but just weeks before his death he revealed to the Herald Sun he was "dealing with a lot" in his final interview.

The Victorian bikie at the centre of a coronavirus border scandal has slammed authorities for falsely accusing him of being coronavirus positive when he fled Melbourne.

Fink-turned-Mongol-turned-Fink Shane Bowden, 48, has hit out at QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk for shaming him at multiple press conferences, despite the health department debunking fears he was contagious at the time he flew into Brisbane.

The Queensland born bikie said he was given the all clear on August 20, a month after he tested positive to the deadly virus.

“When I boarded that plane, I didn’t have COVID-19, so I didn’t put anyone at risk,” Bowden revealed to the Herald Sun.

“The government targeted me because of my past jail time and being an OMCG. The Premier jumped the gun and so did the police who are always targeting the 1%.

“I left Melbourne to clear my head. I believed people were watching my movements — I left in a hurry but things went south fast.

“Police and politicians like to bring up people’s past, they can’t let things go.”

Bowden, one of Melbourne’s most colourful bikies, departed Loddon prison in June after serving five years for his role in a violent home invasion.

He walked from jail in June into a waiting stretch limousine escorted by high profile bikie Toby Mitchell but was soon expelled from the Mongols.

Two weeks after his release, he was injured in a drive by shooting in Epping.

“I got shot and things went down from there,” he said.

“I am now back as a Finks member, I will always be a biker. I am unsure what my future holds, but may be looking at jail time. I am dealing with a lot.

“I want my family to be left alone so we can move forward as I have a lot of years to catch up on with my children.”

Bowden holds hope he can get back with his former girlfriend Trudi McPhee.

“I was in love with her while I served time,” he said.

“We did have a future together then I did something I wasn’t proud of and she walked out. I lost the person who has stood by me for years.”

Bowden is being treated at the Gold Coast’s University hospital for infected leg wounds he sustained when he was shot.
