Sneaky sex breaks the new normal when working from home

Many Victorians confined to their home offices are spending their afternoons on their desks, not at their desks. How many of us are clocking off to have it off?

2021 Aussie Sex Survey: Which generation nailed it?

Sex breaks have become the new work breaks, as Aussies admit to being intimate on shift while working from home.

With Victoria plunged into yet another lockdown, new figures show more workers will be spending their afternoons on their desks, not at their desks.

Research into more than 1000 Australian homes by bedroom and now office furniture brand Koala found one in five of us have been having sex on the job while working from home.

One in three people aged between 34 and 44 years old admitted to clocking off to have it off, making older Millennials and younger gen Xers the most sexually active groups to be working remotely.

This research comes as Australian lingerie retailer Honey Birdette relaunched ‘Honey Uber’ to deliver lingerie and adult toys to couples at home during lockdown.

Honey Birdette’s retail operations general manager Darrien McLeod said the brand relaunched its delivery service because sales for wedding-inspired lingerie surged online when the latest restrictions were announced.

“We also had a bridal veil with matching garter and those sales went absolutely crazy online,” she said.

The retailer trialled the concept in February, when the state was plunged into a snap lockdown just before Valentine’s Day.

The company reported a 150 per cent lift in adult toy sales online since the latest round of restrictions were introduced.

Sex and relationship coach Rachael White told the Herald Sun more Victorians could be having sex while on break to ease the stress of being resigned to their home offices during a fourth lockdown.

“People may have a lot more time on their hands,” Ms White said.

But, she said workers should take the time to get intimate on break because the benefits pay off twofold.

“This lockdown may cause stress, and we all know that stress is one of the biggest killers of libido,” she said.

“Sex reduces stress which may help you be able to focus more when getting back into work mode.

“Having a healthy sex life also increases the feeling of closeness and intimacy.”

Two thirds of Aussies working from home reported using work hours to take extended lunch breaks and enjoy breakfast with their partner.

One quarter of workers also said they were having sex with their significant other more often than they did before the pandemic.

Worker Jordana Hill said an afternoon quickie is the “best productivity booster ever”.

“Part of me feels like sex is for mornings and nights, so I love this feeling of pretending like everyone else is working and I’m swimming in pleasure,” she said.
