NSW Covid updates: Restrictions to ease, 1029 new Covid cases

NSW has recorded a daily high of 1029 new Covid cases and three deaths in the latest reporting period, with at least 61 people infectious while in the community.

Three men - aged in their 30s, 60s and 80s - from Western Sydney died in their homes, health authorities said. They were unvaccinated.

It comes as Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed some restrictions would ease in the coming weeks for people who are vaccinated.

From September 13, people who live outside the LGAs of concern will be allowed to gather with up to five people (including children, all adults must be vaccinated) within a person’s LGA or within 5km of their home.

People within the  LGAs of concern, with all adults vaccinated, will be able to gather outdoors for recreation (including picnics) within the existing rules for one hour outside curfew hours and within 5km of their home.  This is in addition to the one hour allowed for exercise.

Earlier it was revealed an amendment to the Public Health Order would see changes to funerals and services in NSW local government areas of concern with a subclause allowing “a gathering for a small funeral or memorial service” as a valid reason for an outdoor gathering. Under the rules funeral services can have as many as 10 people excluding those who are conducting the service. The new rule comes in on Monday.
