Health Minister Martin Foley has blamed one of his staffers for an embarrassing social media gaffe.

Just a day after declaring he wouldn’t publicly criticise the federal government, Mr Foley’s social media account commented on a Facebook post about vaccines from Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

The comment by Mr Foley read: “Shame on you! This is on you.”

It was quickly deleted, with Mr Foley maintaining that he believed he was the best minister when it came to Commonwealth relations.

When asked about the blunder during Tuesday’s press conference, Mr Foley said the comment wasn’t written by him personally.

“I was disappointed that had happened,” he said.

“Very fortunately I don’t have any administrative rights on my social media channels. I leave that to people under 50.”

When asked if the comment reflected his views, Mr Foley said: “No they don’t.”

“I think if any Minister, of all the states, has demonstrated a capacity to work as cooperatively as possible with the Commonwealth … I might take that title,” he added.
