Full list: Victoria’s 100 priority postcodes for jab blitz

These are the Victorian suburbs most in need of Covid vaccines, with a huge blitz underway to make sure vulnerable residents are protected.

Pop-up vaccination centres will be set up at schools, council buildings and places of worship across 100 priority postcodes as Victoria’s vaccination race is accelerated with a massive supply injection.

The federal government is sending an extra 417,000 Pfizer and Moderna doses to Victoria over the next three weeks in a blitz aimed at the northern and western suburbs, where case numbers are soaring amid lower vaccination rates.

In Hume, where there are now 1001 active cases, the Herald Sun can reveal there have only been 10 GP clinics delivering Pfizer doses.

Wyndham, which has 279 active cases, has also had just 10 GP clinics with Pfizer.

The state government has been raising concerns with the Commonwealth since April about the lack of primary care access points in the north and west, and reacted furiously last week when the Herald Sun revealed 260 GP clinics in Sydney hotspots had been prioritised instead.

The number of Victorian GPs administering Pfizer was already expected to triple this month before Sunday’s supply boost was unveiled, delivering an extra 127,600 doses to increase the fortnightly allocation to 532 clinics.

From next Monday, Victorian pharmacies will receive an additional 180,700 doses of Moderna – on top of 119,510 doses already promised – over two weeks.

More than 230 of these pharmacies will be in Melbourne’s Covid-19 hotspots.

An extra 108,700 Pfizer doses will be delivered to Victoria’s state-run hubs this week.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said the support would flow “in particular to the north and west of Melbourne, where we are seeing similar challenges to those in Sydney”.

The boost was welcomed by Daniel Andrews, although the Premier criticised the delay in acting to help at-risk areas, saying he hoped the commonwealth would “follow the lead we have given them”.

Over the next fortnight, Mr Andrews said five community pop-up sites would open in Hume, Dandenong and Casey to take the vaccination program directly to Victorians.

Pop-up clinics will also open for children and their parents at 70 schools in coming weeks, starting with Dandenong High School, Point Cook Secondary College, Gladstone Park Secondary College, Roxburgh College, Brunswick Secondary College, Tarneit Senior College, Werribee Secondary College and Lakeview Senior College.

These sites are expected to be open for several days at a time, depending on demand.

It comes as government research shows 81 per cent of Australians are either already vaccinated or intend to be, which is the highest mark this year and is fuelling optimism that the country will reach its 80 per cent vaccination target to reopen.

The research also shows 47 per cent of Australians are now concerned about the Covid-19 situation in Australia — more than at any time in the past year.
