When does curfew start in Melbourne?

The curfew came into effect at 6pm August 2.

What is a curfew?

People must stay in their homes from the hours of 8pm to 5am under the curfew. Anyone found outside for an unapproved reason could be fined.

Does the curfew apply to partners?
You can visit your partner from 5am to 8pm. If you are at your partner’s house when curfew begins you must stay at that house. All the stage four restrictions apply while at your partner’s house, including staying within a 5km radius and only one person visiting the supermarket each day.

When was the last curfew in Melbourne?

This is the first time a curfew has been implemented in Victoria, but not the first for the nation. A curfew was introduced in Queensland during WWII.

Only those living in Metropolitan Melbourne must adhere to the curfew as part of stage four restrictions.

The curfew has been introduced to stop people gathering in large numbers inside people’s homes, where social distancing cannot be seen. Infection data shows the virus has been spreading this way.

Can I take my dog out for a bathroom break more than once a day?

Yes, you can leave your apartment to take your dog for a bathroom break. You should stay as close to your apartment as possible and return to your apartment as soon as your dog has relieved itself.

Can I order food delivery after 8pm?

You can’t leave your house to pick up a takeaway order after 8pm, but food delivery services are allowed to operate during curfew hours because they are permitted workers.

What happens if I breach curfew?

Police will fine you $1652.
