British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has welcomed a baby boy into the world.
The 55-year-old has become a father again with his fiancee Carrie Symonds, 32.
The couple’s baby news is a bright spot amid the gloom of the coronavirus pandemic that has swept across Britain, with both mother and father also succumbing to the illness.
However, the as yet unnamed baby has arrived safe and well, despite Ms Symonds only recovering from symptoms pf coronavirus several weeks ago.
“The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well,” a spokesman said.
“The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”
Ms Symonds had endured several weeks of her pregnancy without being able to see Mr Johnson, who became so ill with coronavirus he was forced into intensive care.
He returned to work this week after spending two weeks with Ms Symonds at the Prime Minister’s residence at Chequers, an hour west of London.
