A musical campaign encouraging Melburnians to do the right thing to stop the spread of coronavirus has earned the support of the chief health officer.

The song, created by jingle-writer and Brand Music director of melody Michael Burrows, urges Victorians to be responsible, stay home when possible and wear a mask as it’s “what we need to do”.

Mr Burrows also created a video showing people making a ‘W’ sign to match the lyrics and highlight that we’re all in this together.

3AW’s mornings presenter Neil Mitchell has thrown himself behind the campaign after the musician responded to a call out on his radio show for listener contributions to create awareness.

“I think Victorians are moving on from the anger at the government’s sloppiness that put us into the second wave,” Mr Mitchell said.

“I think we’re now accepting it and focusing on what we’ve got to do to sort it out – it’s up to us.”

“The idea is that it is we, we are fighting this together.”

Mr Burrows, who has also written jingles for brands 13 Cab sand Chemist Warehouse, said he wrote the earworm over the span of a bike ride.

“(Neil) was talking about the words ‘just got to get on with it’, and I found a way to put it together as ‘it’s what we need to do’,” he said.

The musician had just released single ‘Please Don’t Cry’ with song writing legend Neil Finn when the pandemic started, causing many of his shows to be cancelled.

“It’s really our time as Australian to step up and work together, it feels like this is greater than just the self,” he said.

“I feel that as a dad to two young boys, as a business owner, as an artist.”
