Wow. Latest poll shows Malcolm Turnbull is really killing it

THINGS have just gone from bad to worse for Bill Shorten as latest figures show what voters would do if an election was held now.

OPPOSITION Leader Bill Shorten is under renewed pressure as a new opinion poll shows a revitalised Coalition under Malcolm Turnbull is trouncing Labor.

The ascension of Mr Turnbull is very bad news for the Labor opposition 12 months out from an election, as our new PM’s personal popularity rockets to levels not seen since the cult of Kevin Rudd.

The latest Fairfax-Ipsos poll, published on Monday, shows Labor’s primary vote has plummeted to 30 per cent against the coalition’s 45 per cent.

Just two months ago, the gap was 38-36 in the Coalition’s favour.

The Greens’ vote has also taken a hit — down from 16 per cent two months ago to 14 per cent.

On a two-party preferred basis the coalition is ahead 53-47, based on second preferences from the 2013 federal election.

The government has not led Labor in the Fairfax-Ipsos poll since March 2014.

The net approval rating for performance has Mr Turnbull well in front of Mr Shorten.

Sixty-eight per cent of respondents say they approve of Mr Turnbull’s performance and 17 per cent say they disapprove, giving the Prime Minister a rating of 51 per cent overall.

By comparison, 32 per cent of respondents approve of Mr Shorten’s performance and 56 per cent disapprove, leaving the opposition leader with a disastrous net approval rating of minus 24 per cent.

Mr Shorten last week marked his second anniversary as Labor leader, the milestone coinciding with a failed attempt to smear Mr Turnbull as a tax dodger and rich elite out of touch with the rest of Australia.
