THE five highest paying industries advertised on SEEK have been revealed and all average more than $100,000 salaries.

Mining, resources and energy took the number one spot despite the industry downturn, with an average advertised salary of $115,005.

This is followed by consulting and strategy at $108,471, construction at $106,693, engineering at $103,247, and information and communication technology at $102,548.

SEEK spokeswoman Sarah Macartney said the results were very encouraging and showed the strength of the Australian labour market was being buoyed by a number of thriving industries offering well-paying job opportunities.

“It’s interesting to see that mining, resources and energy is still Australia’s highest paying industry on SEEK. The decline in job advertising associated with the mining downturn looks to have finally turned and earning prospects remain strong for those working in this industry,” she said.

“In Western Australia, this January, (the) industry enjoyed the greatest advertising growth, with job ads on SEEK up 45 per cent year on year.”

Ms Macartney said despite high earning potential across industries, however, growth in advertised salary year to year remained relatively flat.

Mining and resources salaries dropped 1 per cent, meanwhile consulting and strategy and engineering each grew by just 1 per cent, and ICT and construction grew by 2 per cent.

“Employees should look at what other perks or benefits they can weave into their remuneration if salaries are not on the rise,” Ms Macartney said.

“This may be the inclusion of a phone or car in their package, free parking or gym memberships, or increased annual leave.”

SEEK has also revealed the specific jobs with the highest average salaries and three of the five were management roles.

The top-paying job advertised on SEEK was ICT architect, which had an average salary of $137,707 (2 per cent growth year on year).

It was followed by engineering manager at $133,530 (up 3 per cent), mining, resources and energy manager at $133,169 (up 1 per cent), ICT managers at $129,903 (up 1 per cent) and general practitioner at $129,635 (no growth).

Ms Macartney said these figures compared to an all-industry average advertised salary of $81,235, which was up 1.8 per cent year on year.

“It’s no surprise that the ICT architect job title enjoyed the overall highest advertised salary on SEEK,” she said.

“(They) play a fundamental role in the creation and design of new technology to keep Australians digitally connected and competitive, and this need is ever increasing. Therefore demand for these professionals is high and so are the salaries advertised on SEEK to attract the best ICT architect talent.

“We predict general practitioners will remain a top-paying job on SEEK because as Australians live longer and our population continues to increase, their services are essential for enhancing the wellbeing and longevity of Australian lives through medical health care.”
