PM Scott Morrison released from quarantine after two weeks in the Lodge

The Prime Minister told the millions of NSW residents freed from lockdown on the same day he left quarantine to ‘enjoy the celebrations’.

The Prime Minister is celebrating his own “freedom day”, having now left The Lodge after 14 days of quarantine, saying he is “looking forward” to seeing his wife and daughters.

Scott Morrison spent 14 days in isolation after returning from a trip to the United States last month.

On his way out of The Lodge on Monday morning, Mr Morrison said just as he had been looking forward to his release day, he had a message for the millions of NSW residents free from lockdown.

“This is the day so many have been looking forward to, the day when things we take for granted we celebrate – being with family and friends, getting a hair cut, grabbing a meal together, going to the pub and having a beer with your mates,” Mr Morrison said.

“To all those in Sydney and across NSW today who are opening up – enjoy the moment, enjoy it with your family and friends.”

Mr Morrison’s time in quarantine has been plagued by controversy, most recently on the weekend when he copped backlash for sharing a photo of him cooking a curry on a barbecue while thousands of people in hotel quarantine around the country are unable to access fresh air.

Mr Morrison has still been able to hold press conferences in an outside section of the residence.

He thanked the more than 400,000 people who came forward for vaccinations over the weekend – the biggest weekend throughout the whole program.

In an unprompted segue, Mr Morrison took a moment to comment on his government’s climate policy, saying it was his job to “bring people together on dealing with this”.

“The world is moving into a new energy economy, we all know that,” he said.

“It is now a question of how, not if, how we can ensure that those communities right across rural and regional Australia can look at this change and understand that there are big opportunities and there is a way through.

“My government is committed to ensuring that rural and regional Australia transitions to this new energy economy in the future. My government will come together on this issue.

“The country will come together on this issue and we will tackle the issue, just like we have tackled the challenges before this.”
